The Weather Channel

I remember when we first got cable, I was fascinated by that channel. Still a reliable friend.

Getting ready to watch a NOVA special about how they are trying to encase Chernobyl in a protective dome.

First think that came to my mind when I read this: Why now?!

Seeing the documentary or why did it take 30 years to do an encasement again?
The new encasement was completed only a couple of months ago.
Perhaps going too political here but here we are.
Great achivement by 40 countries!

For many, she is a role model and an inspiration.
For others she is a threat and a target.

The problem is, I think they said the current project only has a 100 year warranty on it.

Yes.
But meanwhile. Why not spend a holiday there?

The debris is just going to stay inside forever, isn't it?

As long the future sacrofagues will withstand weather and wind for more than 20 thousands years it will.
That's what I call a long project lifespan:)

Next part of the project is to dismantle the old reactor.
Next question is also, Where to put the debris?

Yes, the robots placed inside have a lot of work ahead of them! The debris is just going to stay inside forever, isn't it?

The new sacrophag is already hermetical sealed but I wonder how they sealed it on the ground.

But what about sealing it where it meets the old building at the top? They showed the hinged door-like enclosures. I wonder how they got a good seal onto the building?

It's from my understanding that the sacrophagus is built to avoid that weather and wind will spread all the radioactive dust.
The building ultimately enclosed 740,000 m3 of heavily contaminated debris inside, together with contaminated soil.

The thing that wasn't explained fully was how did they seal the joints once the new shell was attached? Did people in radiation suits go up there and do it?

Anyway the radiation levels near the ground are not so high.
You only need to wear a mask so that you don't inhale any dust.

Me. I would also be wearing lead underwear. I may want children later on in this life.

The construction was built about 200 meters from the reaktor because of the radiation hazards.
Then moved to enclose the reaktor on tracks coated with teflon.

I saw the doc only yesterday.

The encasing is huge.
Trump would say YUUGE.

I took one day to do that.

What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?

Yep. Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange do a great job in the mini-series portraying the feuding actresses.

Btw. Jessica Lange was a very long time I saw acting.
