According to the 'listing' for one of my machines, I/it has abandoned/errored 47 tasks, all at the same time and has no tasks in progress. Not according to my eyes!!! There are currently 43 tasks in progress on it and according to the event log in BOINC, none have been abandoned. The only things listed in the log, are the normal start, finish, upload and report. So, why the difference and why is my PC going to get a bad rep, because of an error at the S@H end? Together with rogue machines validating each-other, this sort of screw-up makes the 'science' look a wee bit suspect!

Since Seti already sees them as abandoned, you might as well abort them.

You won't get credit for them anyway.

As to why it happens, others would know better than I. I've had the same thing happen.

Happy Crunching...

Lets see if I have this right. Work in progress gets marked as abandoned, when it hasn't been, so not even completing it gets any credit, yet in a thread close by, rogue rigs are validating each-others bad work, getting credit and still getting work! My max tasks per day, has remained untouched (as has consecutive valid....go figure!), so does that point to a discrepancy in different databases? This is beginning to look increasingly like a waste of my time and electricity.

Richard has been trying to figure out what is causing those 'abandoned' tasks, but up to now we've not been able to find a definite cause.

As ZAlster said, they are gone (unfortunately) so aborting those you still have locally the server has already written off is your best course of action.

It is not a very common occurance but some rigs (connections?) appear to be more prone to it than others.
Richard can probablt tell you more, when he's done driving across the country.

I do believe Richard nailed down the problem with the Abandoned issue. I still would like to know, why after I travelled across the pond, used various Wifis and safely arrived home, Seti timed out 165+ tasks ten or so hours later.

The limits on bad work, seem to be working with CPU only comps. Noticed the problem, because I had none in the cue.
