No, nothing to panic about, but not really needed for me to start a new thread about this either. And if something should go awry with my cache, it's a handful of tasks only anyway. I generally let the kitty vomit dry before attempting to clean it. I haven't had any issues with plastic surfaces similar to that of the composition of case fans. I did have a PCB that was puked on, but I was stripping parts off of it. So after sluffing off dried kitty puke I ran it under the faucet. Hmmmm.... Do we need a kitty puke advice thread? I deal with a lotta kitty fur, running my rigs side-off. But the kitties haven't coughed up any furballs into the works over the years. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

I generally let the kitty vomit dry before attempting to clean it. I didn't dare doing that as the dry food then solidifies into something resembling concrete and smelling awful. Most of the barf was next to the fan, just the juices had spread to underneath the fan itself. So after sluffing off dried kitty puke I ran it under the faucet. So it is possible to clean a fan with water? Won't that do damage to the bearings or electrics? How do you thoroughly dry it? |

How do you thoroughly dry it? Put it in a vacuum chamber. |

I would think that by installing it in the computer without powering it up for a couple of days, the warmth and air flow would dry it out sufficiently. A blast of canned air to remove the bulk of the water first would not hurt either. The same advice is often given for cell phones that have been accidentally dunked. There is generally no real damage unless the device is powered up whilst still wet. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

How do you thoroughly dry it? Aquarium coupled to a Henry vacuum cleaner, you mean? :-) Re-reading HAL's answer, I suppose he meant that he put the outside of the fan, the fan-blades and all that under the faucet, but not the actual axle housing. :) |

How do you thoroughly dry it? I as talking about washing off a PCB not a fan, but I do sometimes wash my fans under the faucet. When I do that I run the water over the fan blades in one spot causing the fan to spin and basically wash itself. I wouldn't submerge one. The PCB in the fan could swell & separate. OMG, 2015 tapes? WOW! Twice within a 7 day period. Are they trying to spoil us or something? Also noticed that someone did some cleanup on the tasks list. So it now only shows the currently active apps. Application: All () · AstroPulse v7 () · SETI@home v7 () It is probably related to the updated Applications page which also now only shows the current apps. Looking at the list on Exeter; Exeter now has one AP WU. :-) There's a whole lot of MBs on both systems; but only one AP on each... Wish I'd get more APs. TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

Looking at the list on Exeter; Exeter now has one AP WU. :-) Out of 4 AP-capable Wintel boxes, my i5 got 1 - just 1. First one since probably November. I'll take it. Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

Based on the Sent dates, I got 197 APs in this flurry for my two crunchers, as of this post. As to why so many, I haven't the foggiest. But (for now) I ain't complaining. |
