Message 1678153 - Posted: 11 May 2015, 9:27:29 UTC - in response to Message 1675266.

Could it happen?

"This, then, was David Cameron's day. But it was one other leader's too - the woman who didn't even run in this election but dominated it - Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon

All that remains to be seen is how - whether - these two can live together or whether he becomes the last ever PM of a United Kingdom and she the first ever leader of an independent Scotland."

It'd still be the UK, of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Then we can all watch Scotland nose dive spectacularly as they realise independence isn't the panacea they thought it would be.
Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge.

Will Cameron shoot himself in the foot if his plan backfires on him .
Is he gambling with the country's future on plans not thought out well .

What price austerity? Cutting Welfare & other benefits to reduce the deficit & get Britain back in the black...

...Yet there is money in the kitty for this?

One would be entitled to redundancy pay from any long term job, and £11.5m really isn't that much in the grand scheme of things.
Typical DM.

And this?
(the updated version, of course)

Triton II. The Scots doesn't like them.

No they have no need for them, the Scots have their trusty and reliable Caber
to defend themselves with, have you seen one??

Another weapon that both England and Scotland uses.
Use goggles as protection.

Don't you guys think 5 years between elections is a bit to long ??

Message 1678185 - Posted: 11 May 2015, 13:32:36 UTC - in response to Message 1678141.

Unfortunately there is also something of a problem with the Electoral Register on this country, which probably impacts on the number of people who vote. There are essentially two registers, one of which, the edited register, allows every spiv, charlatan and con-man access to your name and address. This 'Open Register' can be seen by anyone (for a fee, naturally!) and is frequently and regularly abused, although one can remove one's details from this register, which is something that the individual had to do themselves.

The other, full register, can apparently only be used for purposes relevant to voting, crime detection (although, not ones pertaining to privacy, one could argue!) and checks by credit companies. Yes, private companies, staffed by all manner of honest souls! Given the massive increase in the number of credit companies that seems to have taken place in this country under recent governments, I shudder to think how many people that could be.

Why the Hell does being able to vote in this country, come at the price of your privacy being invaded?

Actually under Cameron the idea is that being able to live in the UK comes at the price of your privacy being invaded on a near constant basis. Aside from all the CCTV cameras everywhere (to be fair, thats not his idea), the guy has constantly been trying to censor the internet and have the intelligence agencies log and save everyones online history. So far the Lib Dems have successfully been able to take some of the worst aspects out of those laws, but now Cameron doesn't have to take them into account anymore, he can just do what he wants.

Remember that this is the guy the guy that tried to make it possible that companies had to save peoples online behavior for 12 months and that data included the content of the stuff you said on Facebook, Skype, games or some other form of voice call, as well as what you write in emails. And he is actively censoring the internet with his anti porn laws which also include stuff like information about hard drugs and homosexuality.

Yeah, trust Cameron, he will totally not abuse his power and neuter the internet.

Con win, and thereafter no time wasted, is there?

David Cameron is to move fast to capitalise on his general election victory by introducing key elements in the Tory manifesto for an EU referendum and the scrapping of the Human Rights Act that will be overseen by Michael Gove.

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/may/10/conservatives-to-push-forward-on-manifesto-and-scrap-human-rights-act

Michael Gove, the new justice secretary, is to press ahead with plans to scrap the Human Rights Act which could see Britain pull out of the European convention on human rights (ECHR) if the reforms are rejected by Strasbourg.

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/may/10/michael-gove-to-proceed-with-tories-plans-to-scrap-human-rights-act

Martin Howe QC, who helped draft plans to scrap Human Rights Act, confirms 40-page draft is already in existence

http://www.theguardian.com/law/2015/may/11/tory-british-bill-of-rights-martin-howe-human-rights-act

Poor Britain.

I know the tories never liked the human rights act. As a citizen living in a country that has a very good bill of charter rights to protect us from government over-reach I have to say it makes a big difference.

But the British never were citizens, we were subjects, and there are some of the old school that would like you to stay that way.

Has "Red Ed" started something that will cost Labour?

Peer quits Labour Party

"I signed on to New Labour in 1997 but more recently, particularly in relation to business, I sensed a policy shift moving back towards what Old Labour stood for."

& that friends is why we ended up with the Tories getting a majority. The Lib-Dems could have prevented this from happening several years ago & Clegg knew that his actions would cost his party...

...lovely politician isn't he - he himself does what many did not want to see - hand the country over to the Tories!

In terms of the U turn on Student fees yes he did. But he put the country before the party, and I hope you are not suggesting that it was not an honourable decision.
Hope is a wonderful thing...

There isn't much honour in politics these days, but there is one hell of a sight more in the party that I support, than the one that you dallied with briefly. Hence today's Farage U turn.

So are you suggesting that you know who I voted for?

The Lib-Dems are not that old a party, so you must have "dallied" with other parties before they arrived on the scene.

Did you use your vote in what you considered to be in the best interests of the country?

Or did you vote for your cronies?

that I did.....UKIP

As did I. Unfortunately, didn't like the candidate for our local election, so voted in who I thought (as did many others) would be best for the community...

...& I'm glad to say, Bella was re-elected - she deserved it!

Easier said than done.

No it isn't.

Yes, after the election results I think that they are the poorer, they threw the baby out with the bathwater.

I totally disagree with your assessment. The lib dems got what they deserved. The British media is controlled by about six right wing men who ran a scare campaign to keep labour out.

Nobody liked the Human Rights act

You don't speak for everyone, much as you think you do. I liked the human rights act. Last time I looked, I wasn't nobody. You might think otherwise, but again, you don't speak for everyone.

...that allowed out and out Terrorists to remain in the UK, saying to be deported contravenes their 'uman rites. (deliberate spelling)

You are going to have to provide evidence of that statement and explain at what point terrorists (assuming they have actually been tried and proved to be terrorists) stop being human beings.

History shows that the Canadian Bill of Rights was flawed. They started again with the Charter, and even that has criticism. Canada will never sort itself out whilst a large chunk is French.

That's pretty insulting. No document is going to be without its criticisms, but the Canadian Charter of Rights is held up as a blueprint of how to do it.

I am not a citizen neither am I a subject, I am a person.

You are a subject of the Queen.

I accept that generally speaking people living within a Monarchy are described as subjects, people living within a republic are citizens, and in a dictatorship prisoners. (I am not a number, I am a free man).

You are by no means free. However lets look at the freedom scores:
An Index of Freedom in the World (pdf document.) The list in on the 10th page of the document and it lists Canada in the top 5 whereas the UK is in 18th place. That will obviously change if you get rid of the Human Rights Act.

The kindergarten group need to grow up.

More snitty comments from you?
