I just noticed 9 million credits here and 2 days ago 70 million over at Einstein. Crunching is habit forming. |

I am getting close to 15 years doing SETI crunching but am still under 1 million credits. I am wondering just how are the massive credit totals being obtained by others? OK, my computer runs only about 8 hours most days and it is probably nowhere near the fastest. I do though now wonder if I am wasting my computer's and SETI's analysis time, as my input is clearly of miniscule significance. Are low analysing rate users like myself really welcome or should SETI work be left to the rapid analysing users only? |

Are low analysing rate users like myself really welcome or should SETI work be left to the rapid analysing users only? I hope this answers your question. |

Your contributions are just as important as mine. My high total, and high rate, are down to running 24/7, with multiple high-end GPUs, and a big power bill. This will be much the same for any of the other top 100 users. The variables will be the choice of GPU, the choice of applications... Well the top user, with a RAC of 621813, represents 0.001849% of the daily work done here & the combined RAC of the top 20 users comes to 0.02034%. So we are all just drops in the bucket. I understand that the 9000 series is incapable of error, but it is possible you were looking at total work instead of total RAC... Total RAC: 175,911,927 Top RAC (currently MJS): 621,813 Top divided by Total ≅ 0.00353 = 0.353%... MJS is doing about 0.353% of the entire project. The sum of the top 20 contributors is 6,217,815 (very close to ten times that... nice even distribution over twenty.) This is 0.0353 or 3.53% of the total production of the project. |

I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I may have used http://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/project/detail/ rather than http://boincstats.com/en/stats/0/project/detail/ So those previous percentages for MJS's SETI@home contribution in relation to all BOINC projects RAC. I found these numbers interesting for SETI@home Top X users Total RAC Project % 100 17,662,080 10.04% 200 24,471,534 13.91% 300 29,307,495 16.66% 400 33,274,447 18.92% 500 36,664,286 20.84% So ~80% of the projects computing power comes from the remaining 142,807 users. I finally passed 100,000,000 credits! It took a while, as I only crunch on one computer at a time. Steve Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! Crunching as a member of GPU Users Group. GPUUG Website |
