Zika virus: Outbreak 'likely to spread across Americas' says WHO

The Zika virus is likely to spread across nearly all of the Americas, the World Health Organization has warned.

The infection, which causes symptoms including mild fever, conjunctivitis and headache, has already been found in 21 countries in the Caribbean, North and South America.

According to the World Health Organization, 438,000 people died of malaria last year, most of them were children under five years of age and the majority of the deaths occurred in Africa.
However four billion Euros is now promised by British Foreign Secretary George Osborne and the American IT billionaire Bill Gates to eradicate malaria in the world. The money will in the next five years go to research and other efforts to eradicate the disease.

Ebola outbreak: Sierra Leone clashes over market closure

Three people protesting about Ebola restrictions in Sierra Leone have been admitted to hospital after clashes with police, a doctor has told the BBC.

The three suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to a hospital in the northern Kambia district, he said.

Riots broke out after police closed a market in Barmoi town, where someone died of Ebola earlier this month.

Zika virus: US scientists say vaccine '10 years away'

American scientists studying the Zika virus have warned that it could be a decade before a vaccine is publicly available.

The virus is linked to shrunken brains in unborn children, leading to severe brain damage or death.

It has spread to more than 20 countries, and has caused panic in Brazil where thousands of people have been infected.

There is currently no vaccine or cure, and diagnostic testing is difficult.

Zika Virus ‘Spreading Explosively’ in Americas, W.H.O. Says

Zika virus, already in Houston, poses global health threat

The mosquito-borne Zika virus that causes birth defects and reached Houston this month was identified Thursday as "spreading explosively" in the Americas during a World Health Organization briefing.

WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan will convene a committee on Monday to determine whether the outbreak amounts to an international public health emergency. Cases have been reported in 23 countries.

Zika virus.

Zika virus could be bigger global health threat than Ebola, say health experts

The Zika virus outbreak in Latin America could be a bigger threat to global health than the Ebola epidemic that killed more than 11,000 people in Africa.

That is the stark claim of several senior health experts ahead of an emergency meeting of the World Health Organisation on Monday which will decide whether the Zika threat – which is linked to an alarming rise in cases of foetal deformation called microcephaly – should be rated a global health crisis.

New Zika case reported in Canada, but risk ‘very, very low’

OTTAWA—The country’s chief public health officer says there have been four recent cases of people diagnosed with the Zika virus in Canada after travel to affected countries, but the threat to Canada from the mosquito-borne infection is “very, very low.”

Sorry Lynn a bit off topic but what if the "Rapture" is not what people think .

AKA people being lifted to heaven !

Maybe the "Rapture is the last soles in the "guff" not coming down to be mortal but go straight to heaven .

That would explain how the soles in Hell rise up , after all Jesus did say to Mary you have to die to go to heaven and so that would mean you have to be reborn to be able to rise from the grave AKA to come back from hell .And that can only happen when the "Guff" is empty

Guess we shall see how many newborns there are affected till a vaccine is produced , would it be 144,000 or what ever the good book say's ..........

I just think mother nature will have her/him way.

Edit:

About the virus. First isolated in 1947 and first described in a paper in 1952, Zika has long been known to occur in Africa and Southeast Asia—but until a decade ago, fewer than 15 cases had been described in the scientific literature.

Zika declared global emergency by WHO

Zika poses a global public health emergency requiring an urgent, united response, says the World Health Organization.

Experts are worried that the virus is spreading far and fast, with devastating consequences.

The infection has been linked to thousands of babies being born with underdeveloped brains.

The WHO alert puts Zika in the same category of international concern as Ebola.

I keep hearing on the news that they don't have prof it's causing the deformity's in kids .

I am wondering if it more likely Carbon Monoxide ?

Australia's level is 65 ppb

South America off Panama 220 ppb all them ships ?

Ankle of Africa 230 ppb

The one now over Africa was over South America 18-24 months ago ?

It's also grown into a huge cloud 2 x the size of Australia

Carbon Monoxide is even worse than Co2

Texas reports first case in the USA of sexually transmitted Zika virus

Texas health officials reported the first case of sexual transmission of the Zika virus in the USA on Tuesday.

The patient contracted the virus from a sexual partner who was ill with Zika. The sexual partner became infected while traveling to Venezuela, which has a Zika outbreak, the Dallas County Health and Human Services said.

Sierra Leone frees 55 from Ebola quarantine, but seeks 48 others

Freetown (AFP) - Only four people remained in quarantine in Sierra Leone on Wednesday after 55 others were declared free of the Ebola virus and released from hospital, officials and medical sources said.

But medics were urgently seeking to contact around 50 others for testing, most of them from the northern town of Kambia, health ministry spokesman Harold Williams said.

WHO: More Than 48 Ebola Contacts Missing in Sierra Leone

Dozens of people linked to the most recent cases of Ebola in Sierra Leone are still missing, the World Health Organization warns, saying that among them 18 contacts are at high risk of having the virus.

WHO representative Dr. Anders Nordstrom said that while some 70 people under quarantine in three northern Districts, Kambia, Port Loko and Tonkolili, are being released, more than 48 contacts are missing.

Brazil finds active Zika virus in urine, saliva

Paulo Gadelha said at a press conference on Friday that the virus' ability to infect other people through the two body fluids requires further study.

However, he noted that the discovery calls for special precaution to be taken with pregnant women. Brazilian researchers have pointed to a suspected link between pregnant women's infection with the virus and a rare birth defect in babies.

Colombia links Zika to rare nerve disorder deaths

Colombia says three people have died after contracting the Zika virus and developing a rare nerve disorder.

Health Minister Alejandro Gaviria said there was a "causal connection" between Zika, the Guillain-Barre disorder and the three deaths.

Earlier, Brazilian scientists said they had detected for the first time active samples of Zika in urine and saliva.
