CDC to doctors: Keep an eye out for plague Doctors should think about the possibility of plague when they see patients with flu-like symptoms this summer and should ask if they've been camping, hiking or around dead rodents, federal health officials said Tuesday. Eleven cases of plague have been recorded in the U.S. this year, and three people have died. http://www.cnbc.com/2015/08/26/cdc-to-doctors-keep-an-eye-out-for-plague.html |

Getting 196 countries to report disease outbreaks to the World Health Organization will take more than just the legal text of the 2005 International Health Regulations, a global health expert charged with assessing how the rules fared during the Ebola pandemic said on Tuesday. Thanks Janne. He speaks the truth. Fuel the military rather than helping people. :( |

Getting 196 countries to report disease outbreaks to the World Health Organization will take more than just the legal text of the 2005 International Health Regulations, a global health expert charged with assessing how the rules fared during the Ebola pandemic said on Tuesday. A must watch Lynn. It seems like we wait for a disastrous disease outbreak before we get serious about making a vaccine for it. Seth Berkley lays out the market realities and unbalanced risks behind why we aren't making vaccines for the world's biggest diseases. http://www.ted.com/talks/seth_berkley_the_troubling_reason_why_vaccines_are_made_too_late_if_they_re_made_at_all?utm_content=buffer841a7&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer |

Universal flu vaccine comes closer, scientists say Researchers say they are closer to developing a vaccine to give life-long protection against any type of flu, after promising trials in animals. Two separate US teams have found success with an approach that homes in on a stable part of the flu virus. That should remove the problem with current flu vaccines which must be given anew each year because they focus on the mutating part of the virus. http://www.bbc.com/news/health-34038808 |
