Ebola could hit again and we would hardly do better: MSF The Ebola epidemic could flare up again in West Africa and health authorities are no better equipped to control it than they were a year ago, the head of medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres said on Saturday. "The reality today is if Ebola were to hit on scale it did in August and September, we would hardly do much better than we did the last time around," Joanne Liu said on the sidelines of a meeting on Ebola in Dakar. http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/06/13/us-health-ebola-msf-idUSKBN0OT0QA20150613 I hope they can control the few new cases on hand. |

:( SKorean man thought to have MERS hospitalised in Slovakia A South Korean man thought to have contracted the potentially deadly MERS virus was hospitalised in the Slovak capital Bratislava, a spokeswoman said. "He is a 38-year-old man from South Korea who is suffering from diarrhoea, fever and lesions on his skin," Petra Stano Matasovska, from Bratislava's university hospital, told AFP. Local media said the man arrived in Slovakia on June 3 and works for a subcontractor of South Korean carmaker Kia based in the northern town of Zilina. http://www.business-standard.com/article/pti-stories/skorean-man-thought-to-have-mers-hospitalised-in-slovakia-115061400021_1.html |

I'm wondering how Mers got to South Korea if it's found in Camels . Did they import them into there country ? It makes me wonder what will happen here if it comes to our shores . We have a large population of camels in the bush and i don't think they have the Mers disease so how quick will spread across Australia seeing as the Camels in the bush are wild and roam free. It make me also wonder when it came to be as our Camels are from the middle east originally some 150 yrs ago and they don't have the disease ? |

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is a viral respiratory illness that is new to humans. It was first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012. I dont Think Saudi Arabia have Camels. Only Dromedaries. |

Embassy in Saudi says Pinoy has MERS virus MANILA, Philippines - Another Filipino has been infected with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Corona Virus (MERS-CoV) in Saudi Arabia, the Philippine embassy in Riyadh has confirmed. With the latest case, the embassy is reiterating its advisory to Filipinos – especially workers in the healthcare sector – to continue taking all necessary precautions and observe health guidelines issued by the Saudi Ministry of Health and the Philippines’ Department of Health (DOH) to prevent the spread of the disease, which has already killed 10 Filipinos since 2012. The identity of the latest Filipino MERS victim has been withheld. http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2015/06/14/1465638/embassy-saudi-says-pinoy-has-mers-virus |

Authorities warn of trips to South Korea, Arabia over MERS Respiratory disease can be spread by contact, including with camels Prague, June 14 (ČTK) — The Czechs who want to travel to South Korea or the Arabian Peninsula should think of whether it is really necessary to do so over the risk of infection by the dangerous MERS virus, the Health Ministry said today. However, there is no imminent danger to Czechs, the ministry said. Earlier today, South Korea announced another seven new cases of the infection by MERS. So far, 145 people have caught it in the country, 14 of whom have died. http://www.praguepost.com/czech-news/48330-authorities-warn-of-trips-to-south-korea-arabia-over-mers |

janne, maybe some good news. Tests show South Korean in Slovakia probably does not have MERS Tests show a 38-year-old South Korean man admitted to hospital in Slovakia with suspected Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) probably does not have the potentially deadly virus, the Slovak Health Ministry said on Sunday. The ministry said three out of four tests came back negative and the fourth was on the upper limits but not positive. Ministry spokesman Peter Bubla said the patient, who was taken to a Bratislava hospital on Saturday, would undergo further tests. http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/06/14/us-health-mers-slovakia-idUSKBN0OU0V620150614 |

No one foresaw, back in December of 2013, that the little boy who fell ill in a village called Méliandou, in Guinea, West Africa, would be the starting point of a gruesome epidemic, one that would devastate three countries and provoke concern, fear, and argument around the planet. No one imagined that this child’s death, after just a few days’ suffering, would be only the first of many thousands. His name was Emile Ouamouno. http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2015/07/ebola/quammen-text @Lynn "Tests show South Korean in Slovakia probably does not have MERS." Sounds like very good news. |

In the news. Researchers link Ebola news coverage to public panic using Google, Twitter data Using Twitter and Google search trend data in the wake of the very limited U.S. Ebola outbreak of October 2014, a team of researchers from Arizona State University, Purdue University and Oregon State University have found that news media is extraordinarily effective in creating public panic. http://phys.org/news/2015-06-link-ebola-news-coverage-panic.html |

South Korea MERS death toll rises to 16; Saudi Arabia reports 5 cases Seoul, South Korea (CNN)In one sign of a possible return to normalcy, thousands of schools across South Korea re-opened on Monday after closures due to the deadly MERS outbreak. But it came with heightened awareness; children's temperatures were monitored in classrooms and teachers warned students to practice personal hygiene and frequently wash their hands. http://www.cnn.com/2015/06/15/asia/south-korea-mers-outbreak/ |

How do they conclude that searching for info on a disease causes panic i would say it stops panic as people are just looking for answers . Just because there is a sudden spike in the searching doesn't means there is a panic , i would say it's just the nature of the info tech world we live in . News spreads fast but unlike the past we can now get better info on it quickly and every one gets there info at pretty much the same time and so the searching also starts at the same time , how that relates to a panic is a bit over the top . |
