Ebola could hit again and we would hardly do better: MSF

The Ebola epidemic could flare up again in West Africa and health authorities are no better equipped to control it than they were a year ago, the head of medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres said on Saturday.

"The reality today is if Ebola were to hit on scale it did in August and September, we would hardly do much better than we did the last time around," Joanne Liu said on the sidelines of a meeting on Ebola in Dakar.

SKorean man thought to have MERS hospitalised in Slovakia

A South Korean man thought to have contracted the potentially deadly MERS virus was hospitalised in the Slovak capital Bratislava, a spokeswoman said.

"He is a 38-year-old man from South Korea who is suffering from diarrhoea, fever and lesions on his skin," Petra Stano Matasovska, from Bratislava's university hospital, told AFP.

Local media said the man arrived in Slovakia on June 3 and works for a subcontractor of South Korean carmaker Kia based in the northern town of Zilina.

I'm wondering how Mers got to South Korea if it's found in Camels . Did they import them into there country ?

It makes me wonder what will happen here if it comes to our shores .

We have a large population of camels in the bush and i don't think they have the Mers disease so how quick will spread across Australia seeing as the Camels in the bush are wild and roam free.

It make me also wonder when it came to be as our Camels are from the middle east originally some 150 yrs ago and they don't have the disease ?

in our news (which rn't in English, so I'm not posting them here) it is said that a business man came from Middle east infected to SK...

So far about 15 died, 150 infected, about 4000 in quarantine! :/

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is a viral respiratory illness that is new to humans. It was first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012.
I dont Think Saudi Arabia have Camels. Only Dromedaries.

South Korea hospital 'is source of many Mers cases'

A hospital has suspended most of its services after being identified as the source of almost half the cases in the South Korean outbreak of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (Mers).

The president of the Samsung Medical Center in the capital Seoul issued a public apology on Sunday.

Health officials have reported seven new cases bringing the total to 145. Fifteen people are known to have died.

Prague, June 14 (ČTK) — The Czechs who want to travel to South Korea or the Arabian Peninsula should think of whether it is really necessary to do so over the risk of infection by the dangerous MERS virus, the Health Ministry said today.

However, there is no imminent danger to Czechs, the ministry said.

Earlier today, South Korea announced another seven new cases of the infection by MERS. So far, 145 people have caught it in the country, 14 of whom have died.

Tests show South Korean in Slovakia probably does not have MERS

Tests show a 38-year-old South Korean man admitted to hospital in Slovakia with suspected Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) probably does not have the potentially deadly virus, the Slovak Health Ministry said on Sunday.

The ministry said three out of four tests came back negative and the fourth was on the upper limits but not positive.

Ministry spokesman Peter Bubla said the patient, who was taken to a Bratislava hospital on Saturday, would undergo further tests.

News spreads fast but unlike the past we can now get better info on it quickly and every one gets there info at pretty much the same time and so the searching also starts at the same time , how that relates to a panic is a bit over the top .

German man dies of complications stemming from MERS: health ministry of Lower Saxony

A 65-year-old German man who was infected with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus earlier this year has died in hospital, the health ministry of the German state of Lower Saxony said on Tuesday.

The man died in the town of Ostercappeln, north-west Germany on June 6 from complications stemming from the virus, the ministry said in a statement.
