Falls City Beer, I haven't had one in nearly 40 years. It wasn't too bad for a regional brewer. I didn't care for it after the business was bought by Pittsburgh Brewing. They purchased many regional breweries for the Brand Names and then used their own beer instead of trying to match the taste of the purchased label. This turned off a lot of loyal regional customers.

Gordon, is it any better now that it's back in local hands?

I have not tried the re-localized brew, but it's popular amongst the hipsters around here. I may have to pick up a 6 pack this weekend, and report back. ;~)

Incidentally, the reason Louisville is called the Falls City is because of a slight dip in the river that caused boat traffic to have to stop and go around by shore, hence creating commerce and a town here, back in 1778. The "Falls" has been tamed and is now the McAlpine Locks.

Budweiser is the name of two different beers produced by brewers Budweiser Budvar from the Czech Republic and Anheuser-Busch InBev from Belgium. The name has been the subject of copyright battles. In Sweden, the Czech variant is called Budvar Budejovicky.

Budvar Budejovicky is very nice. Lot's of hops.

My favorite bar in America is the Lariat Saloon in Grand Lake, Colorado. I don't get up there more than once or twice a year(avoid the 4th of July at all costs). It has the most eclectic back bar I've ever seen and drips with local ambiance.

Anything is better than the stuff Pittsburgh was making(with the notable exception of Bud....).

One of the most successful advertising campaigns in beer history came from Pittsburgh Brewing in the 70's with "Olde Frothingslosh", with the slogan 'The pale stale ale with the foam on the bottom'. The packaging was the seller.....



I met the model for the photo at the 1977 Beer Can Collectors of American 'Canvention' in Kansas City, Marsha Phillips(now deceased), a very intelligent and interesting person.

And that concluded today's lesson in the history of American Brewing.

I certainly did Gordon, though C.W.#1 did turn up down there to accost me for a while this afternoon for a bit (thankfully she had S.E.S. training tonight so I was safe), but I left before she or the other 2 C.W.'s (they would've been there if I stayed any longer) could make things worse. ;-)

Now that I'm back home and washed I'm tossing up whether I want something to eat or just have a few rums instead before bed (I think that the rum sounds the best for a Thorsday night) as the temp here is almost down to 0C and falling fast.
