And then there is the world of FLOSS whereby software is enshrined as a right to be used and developed and to be kept available for all and any use. Thank you for confirming yet again the only people who can, er should attempt to use FLOSS are ones who have the money to pay a team of software engineers to fix the problems. That isn't an end user! End users have to use what is available bugs and all. End users have to wait for others to make patches. To an end user FLOSS or M$ is identical in this respect. To an end user he can't sue FLOSS any more than he can sue M$ for a bug. |

We all know how you feel about open source software Gary. That dead horse has long been dead. Stop beating that dang thing. ;) Let me ask you, what browser do you use? I'll bet it's open source. ;) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. Now they want to know your telephone number as well. From the newest Windows 10 Insider blog: Signing in to Windows with password-less Microsoft accounts We’re pushing forward on eliminating passwords and keeping your accounts safe with another cool feature. Today, we’re announcing support for setting up and signing in to Windows with a phone number account, without having to create, or deal with the hassle of a password!  If you have a Microsoft account with your phone number, you can use an SMS code to sign in, and set up your account on Windows 10. Once you’ve setup your account, you can use Windows Hello Face, Fingerprint, or a PIN (depending on your device capabilities) to sign in to Windows 10. No password needed anywhere! Just as the advice by NIST is to not use SMS text as a possible attacker can have taken over your phone number (so-called SIM hacking) and with that they can log in on anything you have set the 2 factor authentication for. |

Just got cumulative update KB4483234 for Windows 10 Version 1803. The PC was running 8 Atlas@home tasks from LHC@home using VirtualBox 5.2.22 and they all survived. Tullio |

Just managed to kill competitor's (Ubuntu) Live USB bootable image. Not impressed in Linux stability at all :/ Well, I have another Live USB, now with Windows. Lets see what it can do ... SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them. |

WoW.... My Win10 netbook refuses to sign me in!!!!! "This sign-in option is disabled because of failed sign-in attempts or repeated shutdowns (!!!!!! WTF!!!!!). Use a different sign-in option, or keep your device powered on for at least 2 hours (!!!!!!!) and then try again". So, I should leave work undone just because of crazy Windows demands??!! Let me ask you, what browser do you use? I'll bet it's open source. ;) You mean the one with over 1,000 CVE's? BTW last time I checked surfing the internet wasn't considered work, in fact at most places it will get you fired. And how much time and effort goes into firewalls because of all the bugs in the open source network software? But you still don't understand. If there is a bug in open source you the user must patch it and there isn't anyone to sue because the software isn't "merchantable" or "fit for a particular purpose." Now if that bug happens to order your million dollar machine to break itself and now you can't make your product for a couple of weeks while it is being fixed, go sing the praises of your great software, while you spec software that is certified to work with your million dollar machine's exact model and serial number. Or let me put it this way, do you want the flight control software on the jumbo jet you just got on to be a canned open source program that promises to fly everything from hobby drones to falcon rockets, or do you want it to be custom software made specifically for that air-frame with the knowledge of the flight test engineers? I'm not saying you can't surf the internet or make a slide presentation with open source. I'm saying when it comes to real world software for actually doing real productive things that interface with the real world, even you don't want 100% open source. And the moment you realize that, you know either you get closed software or you hire a team of software engineers. |

Let me ask you, what browser do you use? I'll bet it's open source. ;) There's a place in this world for open source software, and there's a place in this world for dedicated software. You creating bogus scenarios to prove YOUR point is useless. All you're doing is proving that YOU believe ALL open source software to be evil. BTW, I'm retired and I CAN surf the Internet all I want and you ain't got NOTHING to say about it. And I will use my OPEN SOURCE browser to do just that. You can use Internet Exploder and EDGE all you want and I'll be MUCH more secure on the Internet than you. Stop beating the dead horse. No one wants to here your evil ramblings about open source software "being evil". Just drop it already! Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. Stop beating the dead horse. No one wants to here your evil ramblings about open source software "being evil". Just drop it already!Several years ago, a "Linux rules the world" thread appeared. At that time, Linux share of the market was 1.2%. So in several years, it lost 0.4%. WHEN will it rule the world? Can any Linux guru provide us with an actual timescale as to when that will happen? |

[WHEN will it rule the world?I don't think you can ever answer that, because you'll have to define the platform you're comparing it against. Else the answer is a shrug. Servers run predominantly Linux, FreeBSD and other Unix style operating systems. You can't navigate the internet without Linux, as all of the search engines, big online stores and even the Internet backbones run some form of Linux. Does that compare to how Windows 7 is still the most used OS on desktop platforms and Android is the most used OS on hand held devices? Even Microsoft is now distributing Linux and with Windows Subsystem for Linux support in Windows 10, that will only grow further. All you have to wonder about is if you want a Microsoft Linux distro. |

Stop beating the dead horse. No one wants to here your evil ramblings about open source software "being evil". Just drop it already! And this thread was meant to be about the pros & cons of Win10, yet the LINUX zealots hijack it for their own use. Of course that was after the M$ is Satan squad trashed it themselves. Might as well just lock this thread- other than being a platform for people to bitch about Win10 it serves no useful purpose. Grant Darwin NT |

Even Microsoft is now distributing Linux and with Windows Subsystem for Linux support in Windows 10, that will only grow further. And Chrome books are soon going to be able to run Windows, and Windows is being developed to run on ARM devices, allowing it to grow further. Grant Darwin NT |

Stop beating the dead horse... as it relates to Win10's use in running BOINC and related apps. Face it, the thread failed on day 1. |

Stop beating the dead horse. No one wants to here your evil ramblings about open source software "being evil". Just drop it already! Hi Grant, The thread is still about Windows 10 pros and cons. It's when someone comes to the thread and starts beating a dead horse about his or her beliefs of something that has nothing to do with what this thread is about that taints the thread. I have been enjoying this thread from its beginning. I check it every day for new posts. I would hate to see the thread go away. Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. Plenty of cons with all Windows platforms after Win7, but I've yet to find or see any pro's from the lot of them (Win8/8.1/10) in any shape or form. ;-) Cheers. |
