Hi Zoom,

Yes, it had. When you have deep pocket people running the company and the company "gives away" their main stream product, the deep pocket people start crying and the main stream product takes a dive in quality. IMNSHO that is. ;)

Have a great day! :)

More of the 'New Microsoft'?

Can you imagine?!...

Surface Book 2 afflicted by mystery Blue Screen Of Death errors

Not so mysterious, say users, it was the update wot dunnit

If you’re running a Surface Book 2, you might want to hold off on the latest cumulative update that is making some in the line quite poorly and their owners quite irate...

The update is aimed at the 1803 of Windows 10 (also known as the April 2018 Update) and contains a veritable smorgasbord of fixes as well as few known issues...

“Bricks your Surface Book 2 to the point you have to reinstall Windows” is, curiously, not listed. Funny that...

... It isn’t a good look for Microsoft’s flagship laptop...

Well, well, well. Fancy that!... Who would believe IT...

IT is what we allow it to be...

Well... Personally:

I don't believe it! Totally unbelievably stupid.

This is now just simply far too silly for words. The impact to users is even more silly and costly.

And this really does bring the whole world of IT into disrepute. (And everyone working in IT...)

Cue American class action lawsuits?

There must be a better way!

Can you believe it?!

ps: Was going to include a pun or two on "In a bit of a fix" and "Don't fix wot ain't broke" but despair got the better sense of me. (Pathetic puns too painful to recount for this one :-( How can anything excel at Total Stupidity? Ouch!)

Hi Martin,

Micro$ofts EULA FORBIDS class action lawsuits against their company. Just another way for them to try to get away with the crap they are getting away with. I really wish the EU would knock them down. I believe the EU would have a better chance of getting results than the U.S.A. would. :)

Have a great day! :)

I haven't had any problems with it, except when I attempted to upgrade to 1809, but it seems that Edge MAY BE dying, dying, DEAD!! https://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft-building-chromium-powered-web-browser-windows-10

Heh, want to see something broken? Try Just Cause 4, released today. The menus alone are a nightmare, with some using a back-button to get back to the previous menu, others needing to right-click to do that, yet more others requiring you to use the arrow keys to scroll through to get to a back-button. I think I spent the full 90 euros on it for the pre-release plus DLC option. Am now wondering if I should go for s refund. ;-)

Hi Martin,

Micro$ofts EULA FORBIDS class action lawsuits against their company...

What's that?!

A Microsoft EULA to EULA against the law?!

Really? So, make yer payments for no guarantees, no promises, and to agree to not own anything?... In reality??

To my mind, that's no way to run a business - from either side of the table!

How can this be?!...

It's the wobbly Microsoft service sweepstake! If you have 'Teams'...

Microsoft's Slack-alike, Teams, has taken a beating from the stick of instability, and was still wobbling at the time of publication.

Users around Europe and beyond began reporting issues connecting to the online collaboration platform from around 10:00 UTC. The problems cover both the app and web versions of Teams, with users' sessions repeatedly reconnecting...

... We have contacted Microsoft to find out what the issue is, and will update the story when we learn more.

Whatever next?!

Would you believe IT?

Hi Martin,

Yep, I would have to agree with you on that. In my mind Micro$oft is too cowardly to face up to their own misbehavin's and pay out to those that say "Hey, Micro$oft. Fix your crap!". I would surmise that it has something to do with the fact that they GAVE away Windows 10 and already lost revenue.

Have a great day! :)

https://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/3067659/microsofts-windows-10-debacle-has-affected-cisco-and-morphisec-endpoints

Two major Endpoint security modules, Morphisec's Protector and Cisco's AMP for Endpoints, are screwing with Windows (or perhaps more accurately, Windows is screwing with them) and so users of both have been blocked from installing the dreaded Build 1809, aka the Windows 10 October 2018 Update.

They join an ever-widening group of users who have been affected, including anyone with a small hard drive (that's what she said), anyone who uses ZIP files, anyone using HP, anyone who uses iTunes and iCloud (this one is fixed), anyone with a NAS or other network connected drive, anyone using Universal Windows apps, certain AMD chip users, users of Intel audio drivers, VPNs from F5 and some Trend Micro security software, and indeed anyone to so much as give it a funny look.

Uh, that audio driver issue is also on Win 7!

Greetings Jord,

I have the perfect solution for Micro$ofts current woes with Windows 10 v1809:

Scrap windows 10!!! Bring back Win7 and continue to work on it. Add the new tech support that came out after Windows 10 was released to Win7 to bring it up-to-date.

It's looking to me like the more they work on Windows 10, the more and more screwed up it becomes. Scrap it and start over.

Have a great day! :)

No, no, I fell for that the last time around, ain't doing it now.

@JC4:
Have asked for and been refunded JC4, after playing it for an eye-watering hour and a half. If you're still unsure, do read this review and reconsider. As long as developers are allowed by the GP to release crap like this, they'll never learn.

https://www.techradar.com/news/microsoft-halts-yet-another-windows-10-update-after-blue-screen-of-death-errors

Microsoft’s Windows 10 update woes are continuing, with the company having to halt the recent Windows 10 November 2018 cumulative update (KB4467682) after reports it was causing PCs to crash and display the infamous ‘Blue Screen of Death’.

At first, the errors appeared to only affect the Surface Book 2, Microsoft’s own hardware, which lead to the company halting the update for those devices.

However, Microsoft has now revealed that the problem is more widespread, and it has now pulled the update from all devices.

In a new support post, Microsoft explains that “After installing this optional update some users have reported getting a blue or black screen with error code, “System thread exception not handled.” As a precaution, we have removed this optional update from Windows Update and Microsoft Update Catalog to protect customers.”

Windows 10 collects an “Activity History” of applications you launch on your PC and sends it to Microsoft. Even if you disable or clear this, Microsoft’s Privacy Dashboard still shows an “Activity History” of applications you’ve launched on your PCs.

Hi Jord,

Ok, I did not have it set on my PC and I do NOT have an account on Micro$oft servers. Is the data they get from me anonymous? Or do they even get any of the history activity from me?

Have a great day! :)

In this week of yet another week of the never-ending Microsoft bug-fixes-plus-added-bugs and 'new features' patch Tuesday patchset...

Upon my logging onto a certain system that includes the very old and venerable but still current "fortune", there didst appear through the crystal shutters of my now much more modern flat panel display, an apt and now prophetic utterance that once adorned the old glowing phosphors of the CRTs of many days long gone by:

I used to be interested in Windows NT, but the more I see of it the more
it looks like traditional Windows with a stabler kernel. I don't find
anything technically interesting there. In my opinion MS is a lot better
at making money than it is at making good operating systems.

Yep... The Register have picked up on that:

Windows 10 can carry on slurping even when you're sure you yelled STOP!

All your activity are belong to us

... In what is likely to be more cock-up than conspiracy, it appears that Microsoft is continuing to collect data on recent user activities even when the user has explicitly said NO...

... Deliberate slurpage, or a case of poor QA and one team not talking to the other aside, it isn't a great look for Microsoft...

... Microsoft got in touch to insist it is committed to privacy and transparency, but admitted there is indeed a bit of naming problem ... Marisa Rogers, Privacy Officer at the software giant, told us: "We are working to address this naming issue in a future update." The slurpage collection is of course for your benefit and Rogers added that users have "controls to manage your data."...

Well! I be damned!! Darn and drat and double drat 'n' all that...!

So... Is this an example of:

  1. Malevolence?
  2. Incompetence?
  3. Dumb uncontrolled uncoordinated shoddiness?
  4. Incoherent unmaintainability?
    * Or something else??

What can you believe?!
