And again, nothing of substance in the release notes unless you want to play around with cheap VR headsets.

Grant - Do you have your system set up so that it does not update hardware device drivers? I have mine set to "NO" I've never had a problem with my NVidia drivers with that turned off.

I had video driver updates disabled with the policy editor.
The driver version remained un-changed, but OpenCL just wouldn't work, so I had to re-enable video driver updates (the setting also blocked manual updates), re-installed the existing driver, and re-blocked video driver updates.
I might give the "Block all hardware driver updates" a go, as it's easier to set (don't have to copy all the device id numbers to block the particular hardware).

EDIT- looks like I've already done that.

I wish M$S would allow desktop users who have Win 10 Pro installed to deselect 90% of the crap we don't use.

Yeah, after each of the major updates I spend quite a bit of time removing where possible, or otherwise just disabling, a lot of the new features that get installed.

I believe that's your problem with having to reinstall the driver. The driver update provided by M$S doesn't include OpenCL. You should always install the drivers from the NVidia web site to ensure that you get everything. Instead of editing the policy, I disabled Hardware updates via the control panel. All hardware updates are blocked with one click although it takes several to get there. (Control Panel -> system -> Advanced System Settings -> Hardware -> Device Installation Settings -- set to "NO" then "OK", then exit out and you don't have to worry abut device ids. I'm sure there's a quicker way but I don't know all of the short cut key words and if you ask Cortana, it will send you to the web.

And I didn't get it, although for some reason it did stop my current driver from working.
I'm guessing it tried to install, and couldn't- but that attempt was enough to clobber OpenCL.

All hardware updates are blocked with one click although it takes several to get there. (Control Panel -> system -> Advanced System Settings -> Hardware -> Device Installation Settings -- set to "NO" then "OK", then exit out and you don't have to worry abut device ids.

Prior to the Creators Update, blocking the device IDs was the only thing that worked for me. Using the Policy Editor I checked my settings, and that's where they're showing as blocking Device Driver updates through Windows Update. We'll see how that goes when the next update eventually rolls out- even then I've set the system to defer Updates, and only use the Business branch. Hopefully that gives them enough time to sort out any issues before I finally get any updates.

I'm sure there's a quicker way but I don't know all of the short cut key words and if you ask Cortana, it will send you to the web.

One of the first things I did when I got Win10 was disable Cortana. My search function only searches my PC. Luckily the Creators Update didn't undo that work.
Why people use things like SIri & Cortana I have no idea- I prefer not to give out all that sort of information to the likes of Apple or MS.

Interesting as that is the way I've always blocked Windows from updating device drivers since I first installed Win 7 and it screwed up OpenCL.

I've always left that option enabled as disabling it stops new devices connected from the system from getting device drivers if they aren't already available on the system.

Windows 10 Bug Causes Data Loss on Android When Copying Files with File Explorer
Bug confirmed when copying files within Android storage

A bug in Windows 10 causes files copied from one location to another on a PC-connected Android device to vanish completely if the built-in file manager File Explorer is used for the operation.

If I install new devices to my system, I've always loaded the drivers/software that came with the device, then went to its web site to pull down the latest software/drivers and installed it/them if necessary. I recently installed a new printer and instead of letting the OS install the basic drivers for it, I installed the software & drivers with the CD that came with the device. After I recycled the machine I went to the web site to see if there was any updates that were required to be done.

The only exception to that is when I've upgraded my GPUs, since I only install NVidia supported GPUs and I go to web site and pull down the latest driver for the upgraded GPU(s) and do an advanced/clean install after I insert them if the version I'm currently using is too low for the new GPU and recycle the machine. All of my drivers are at a greater version then what M$S calls for anyway. It's a few extra steps, but I think it's worth it and if something goes wrong I can't immediately lay the blame on M$S.

A lot of devices, mostly USB/eSATA3 related, don't come with drivers anymore or have no drivers downloadable from their master's website. These are built in into the Windows drivers pool. Then you have to think about things like monitors, external hard drives, thumb drives, keyboards, mice, external CD/DVD/Blu-Ray drive, external sound cards, headphones/microphones, game controllers, speakers, docking-/backup stations, even when you plug your smart phone into a USB port, it will be found.

In short. Windows 10 Creator update - install or refuse by all means possible?

Overall, I've grown to like Win 10 over Win 7 in general, while hating the Borg-like approach MS has taken to its roll-out.
No opinion on Creators, as I (don't think) I've had that stuffed down my throat as yet. (Running 15063 build).
The whole driver update thing irritates the eff out of me, specifically NVidia drivers being distributed without OpenCL support crashing my crunchers. But general Win10, yes, though the forced update bit leaves me without valid licenses after drive crashes, also an irritant.

Thanks, Grant. That wasn't clear to me. So, no issues seen here, all machines are on 15063.00.

General Information.....
I lust built an I5 w/MSI MB and installed a new Win7 OS(virgin disc)with no hiccups. Activation needed a call to automated Support and through a series of verification numbers the system was validated. No install stick or ISO needed.

I've got one disc left I'm going to save for an I7 6 core system I'm planning.

I just ran into a scam on Ebay regarding supposed "Microsoft Windows 7 Professional PRO 32 64 Full Version SP1 + Product Key + HD"(actual ad title) displaying an image of a Windows 7.(Actual Image below):

Ranging in price from $19.99 to $27.99. I ordered 1 ea from three different sellers out of curiosity(each was supposed to come with hardware-disc drive or memory, none did).
When the packages arrived each was identical: 1 or 2 DVD's with printed label titled Windows 7 Professional and a computer printed instruction sheet, also enclosed was a COA that looked to have been removed (from a decommissioned computer desk or laptop?).

The Discs were ISO image files and none would boot on the laptop I used as a trial install. I reported the issue to Ebay and demanded refunds(less than $100 total) and so far two of the three have agreed. I am retaining the return address of each seller(looks to be home business enterprises) in case I'm contacted for litigation or investigation.

To be fair some of these offers may be legit and I've ordered another for a higher price which shows a picture of an actual MS WIn7 Install disc. We'll see if this is another scam.

Link to Item listings FYI

If it's too cheap to be true..............it is.

Official CCleaner infected with a backdoor.
http://www.piriform.com/news/release-announcements/2017/9/18/security-notification-for-ccleaner-v5336162-and-ccleaner-cloud-v1073191-for-32-bit-windows-users
We recently determined that older versions of our Piriform CCleaner v5.33.6162 and CCleaner Cloud v1.07.3191 had been compromised. We estimate that 2.27 million people used the affected software. We resolved this quickly and believe no harm was done to any of our users. This compromise only affected customers with the 32-bit version of the v5.33.6162 of CCleaner and the v1.07.3191 of CCleaner Cloud. No other Piriform or CCleaner products were affected. We encourage all users of the 32-bit version of CCleaner v5.33.6162 to download v5.34 here: download. We apologize and are taking extra measures to ensure this does not happen again.

http://www.piriform.com/news/blog/2017/9/18/security-notification-for-ccleaner-v5336162-and-ccleaner-cloud-v1073191-for-32-bit-windows-users
We would like to apologize for a security incident that we have recently found in CCleaner version 5.33.6162 and CCleaner Cloud version 1.07.3191. A suspicious activity was identified on September 12th, 2017, where we saw an unknown IP address receiving data from software found in version 5.33.6162 of CCleaner, and CCleaner Cloud version 1.07.3191, on 32-bit Windows systems. Based on further analysis, we found that the 5.33.6162 version of CCleaner and the 1.07.3191 version of CCleaner Cloud was illegally modified before it was released to the public, and we started an investigation process. We also immediately contacted law enforcement units and worked with them on resolving the issue. Before delving into the technical details, let me say that the threat has now been resolved in the sense that the rogue server is down, other potential servers are out of the control of the attacker, and we’re moving all existing CCleaner v5.33.6162 users to the latest version. Users of CCleaner Cloud version 1.07.3191 have received an automatic update. In other words, to the best of our knowledge, we were able to disarm the threat before it was able to do any harm.
