Glenn, HaHa!! I can understand your sentiment! To answer the other question, yes I am up to date with Internet Explorer 11. Thought I had satisfied all the perquisites and was wondering why I hadn't been bugged yet. I was wondering what is different in my systems that I haven't been inflicted with the Windows 10 'update bug' yet. The systems get turned off every day after solar sundown and powered back up every day once I have enough power to justify the A/C to overcome the heat load they put out when running. Just wondering.

Cheers, Keith

Not sure, but it may be that you have to have automatic updates on, and it attempts an automatic update, even though there isn't anything to update.

The only thing that I have not updated is My video driver, of course on this motherboard, I can't do that, the power regulators are pretty much shot and they'd need replacing, before this motherboard would be usable, since this PC is wired up like an XMAS tree inside, anything that can be plugged directly into the psu, is, the video card gets most power from the EVGA power card in an x1 pcie slot and the driver is 266.58, hopefully the G.Skill 1866MHz XMP DDR3 ram I'll be buying in July will allow Me to replace this motherboard, then I can update the driver and go back to 42, instead of using 32 and 266.58.. Then look out.

Greetings Gary,

I never have automatic updates set and I got the icon on both my PC and my laptop. Having auto updates restart my PC and leaving it sit at the login screen does not appeal to me, running BOINC and all. Besides, I don't trust Windows to properly shut down my programs, especially BOINC. :)

Keep on BOINCing...! :)

To those of you that missed what I said about not getting the icon and the 'Win 10 update bug'. M$S has opted to sending the invitations out in batches, not all at once; which is why some haven't gotten their invitations yet. Don't worry, be happy. It doesn't matter whether you have auto update on or not, as long as you are current including KB3035583. For my machine (Win7 x64 Ultimate), all of the updates are installed except 2 optional that deals with 8.1, and the 34 language packs. When it's your time you will get it.

I have my update app set to 'NEVER' and manually check it every so often. I always check to see what the 'RECOMMEMDED & OPTIONAL' updates are before selecting/applying them or hiding them if I don't want them. I do notice that recommended/optional updates will appear at any time from one month to another along with the very rare out of frame required update, which is why I check every now and then and if I want to install them I will. It was during my check on 17 May that I installed the invitation, which was listed as recommended btw, after highlighting the update and pressing 'MORE INFORMATION' to get some idea of what the update was about.

I put update on a leash and update the OS when I feel like doing that, letting the OS do this automatically, I know it could do, I just like doing this Myself, when I'm ready.

Greetings everyone,

I gotta question: Can anyone running an AMD based PC/laptop tell me if you have gotten the 'Get Windows 10' icon? We have a laptop here running with an AMD processor and it just refuses to come up with the icon on the notification tray. My Pentium Duo Core got it last week and my laptop is many years older. Oh, and yes, update KB3035583 is installed on the AMD laptop. :)

Any info would be greatly appreciated. :)

Keep on BOINCing...! :)

Everybody who doesn't see the upgrade icon yet but wants to have it can try to run this batch file:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/0u0au9xgy6ss18p/win10fix_full.zip?dl=0

It's from the german Microsoft Support Forum and should be clean, but as usually: Use at your own risk!

Greetings Chrome,

Thanks for the info. I really didn't think that AMD users were going to be left out in the cold. ;)

Thanks again! :)

Hi Zoom314,
Windows keys are not a problem, lavelys Everest program records all M$ keys when its run:-)

Its the keys for the odd little programs you only use once in a blue moon:-/ Those tend to get lost over time.

Cheers,

Belarc Advisor lists all programs and keys when run. Very handy FREE program.

@ Chromespringer,

Yes, Voyager, (my HP Pavilion laptop), has a Turion X2 dual core processor. I bought it in 2010, it came with Vista SP-2. I upgraded it to Win 7 Home Premium; and, now, I'm getting it ready to upgrade to Win 10. A day and a half after installing KB3035583, Voyager now displays the "Get Win 10" icon.

If you are a registered Insider and run the current build 10130 with your MS-account, you should get the final version for free even without running W7 or 8.1. At least that's what many german tech sites claim since yesterday. Could be interresting for ppl that still run XP.

I am running Windows 8.1 on a HP minitower. I got the message that I have been reserved for Windows 10 upgrade. What I use Windows for is to run a VirtualBox platform for my CERN programs, written in Scientific Linux.

Not until SP1 !!!

There will be no SP1, as already stated many times in this thread already.

Correct.

But I would still wait. Until some of the unanticipated 'bugs' are resolved.

Yep.
My plan is to wait 2-3 months & see how things pan out.

Hopefully for Microsoft's sake, hopefully not...

But then again... The current Windows have recently seen an awful lot of patch-ups :-(

As I volunteer to teach IT at the local 60+ club my laptop will be upgraded first thing on the 29th, followed by one of my older non crunching desktops with a GT240 in.

So when I go to the 60+ club on the Friday I will know what to expect if anyone has upgraded their machines. The reason to upgrade my laptop, so I can take it with me to show people what it looks like, and how easy/difficult it is to use.

Still I expect to have my main machine and my only other Win 7 cruncher upgraded within a few days.

I have everything I value backed up in two places so why wait!

Live on the cutting edge I say :-)

After reading this thread and I've been following from its beginning I personally ain't in NO hurry to update any of my machines from windows 7 . The O/S works fine for me and don't have any problems with it . Im sure when its released there's going to be another thread here along the lines of " Windows 10 did this or that to my computer" .
The way I see it its a personal choice if you upgrade or not and I ain't one that's got to be 1st with a "new gadget" I'm sure when Windows 10 is released they will of tried to remove any ~"bugs" that have been found in testing but there's going to be some or some loophole that hasn't been 4t of and some "geek / nerd" will find it hopefully not exploit it but who knows . just the way things are nowadays !!!

Micorosft orginally posted "users would receive the Windows 10 final release build and remain activated.". Then they promptly removed the "and remain activated" portion & added a disclaimer that only Windows 7 or 8.1 license owners would get Windows 10 for free when it arrives on July 29th
