As a true non-believer and humanist I wish you the best of luck. Diversity of thought should always be welcomed. I have great respect for those who have stronge personal convictions and beliefs, as long as they are genuine and don't infringe upon others. Our world is a place of great diversity, such as my beliefs are divergent from yours; still I can respect you because you do not attempt to cross the line between your beliefs and those of mine.

I can respect your beliefs, if you will respect mine. The key word here is respect. If one shows respect, you will be respected in return.

I'm a non-believer also, but that doesn't mean I don't respect those who do. Like Dogbytes and many others, if you show me respect for what I believe I will reciprocate that respect in turn.

I'm all for debate, as long as it is true debating and not flaming. There's a specific thread for that, so use that instead.

Time at Cas's Place: Sun 02 January 2005, 23:50:09 (GMT Standard Time)

Ready for the debates!! Cas.

I agree.

Science explains a lot of things and philosophy/wisdon
seems to explain the rest. I try to be open minded.
The philosophy or wisdon can come from anywhere, person
or Religion. Knowledge seems to be the key to everything.

Again the more Knowledge anyone has the less ignorant they
are from what I have seen.

Is it possible for all the pictures and Avatars to be
discarded this forum will be a better place with out them.
This is not pointed at anyone.

Religious tolerance?

There is no such thing. Religions are tolerant only when they lack the power to enforce their beliefs.

Unfortunatly it that does seem quite true when people get extreme in some groups.
I read someware that we (Humans) are ment to be the most advanced but ironicaly
we are quick to go to war over Religions, idears and politics.

I'm very tolerant, I have no religion to enforce. One man cults are another matter.

Thats cool. I think its good not to get extreme about religion and having your
own beliefs/idears is cool. Show that we can be individual. Choice is what makes
life intresting and random.

If we were all the same the slitest thing could wipe is out.

I have explained my true belief in another thread here, because I was asked by someone! Else I have a very deep respect for people no matter what color, religion and politics they may have! I don't like being called a heathen by somebody. My belief in God is very strong!!!

I'm sorry, English is not my first language. I mean pagan. "Heathen" is in my dictionary though!

Well I'm not sure why they would use that as an insult. It shows how ignorant
they may be.

"Paganism
The word 'pagan' (devrived from the latin word term pagus, which literally means
'form the countryside' or 'rural') has over the years, been used pejoratively by
Christians to mean 'uncivilized','non-Christian' and even 'Satanic'"
From the Encyclopedia of new religions.

Paganism is used to as a term for religions that worsip nature. They tend to
avoid anything that harms the earth. Wicca and Druidry are two examples of this.
And are oftern misunderstood by people that have only heard the name. You should
not be offended as the person who said this did not undersand what it means.

Shinto and Tao would be a few more examples.

Tolerance is for those that tolerate, but not the intolerable.

I don't think my religion is that way, nor the practice of many Christian religions. It's harder for me to speak about Islam, Hinduism or other religions, but I think there are many tenets of tolerance in those. Don't judge a group by it's bad apples (to mix metaphors).

Heathen as well as pagan have been given a negative conotation... both actually mean someone from outside city and state culture.

Heathen literally means "heath dweller" but has come to be linked with conotations of "old world", "uncivilised" or some how "dark" and "mysterious"..

In this sense it is not too much unlike the way "religion" in general is seen by the ever increasingly industrialised world.

Now was the thread about "Religious Tollerance" or about "being religiously tollerant" ;)

Pete

PS. I did write a lot more than this but the text box seems to have a limit on post size so I re-edited it down a lot :)
