Low level format is like watching grass grow but more painful... Enjoy the coffee and rest time while you watch. Any day above ground is a great day! |

Purging and rebuilding databases is far more intense than a low level format. During the purge phase you have to keep an eye on the various monitor screens to make sure that no further, irreparable, damage is being done, coffee is certainly required. Then comes the rebuild, again an eye on the monitors to check all is going to plan, and consume more coffee. Whereas with a low level format you launch, go for a meal and come back.... Great fun is when doing both a db purge & rebuild at the same time as rebuilding a big RAID array - now that needs a steady nerve. All the best Matt - when finished you will deserve something a little stronger than coffee. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Well at least I know why my faster machine is now processing its last job. As I have another slower machine at least I will keep doing work for several more days before totally running out. Ian Fraigun |

Glad to know what's up. I have about a week of WUs queued-up so hopefully more will be available before I run dry. Funny thing though -- it's almost as if one of my PCs knows there is a WU shortage as BOINC is using only about 75% of my CPU despite being configured with no restrictions. I cannot figure out why. I don't think it has a parasympathetic nervous system. ;-) |

RE the new visualization: (and not meaning to hijack the thread...) Good question. This visualization was 99% programmed by a volunteer Christopher Stevens. Didn't really take up any internal time/resources. - Matt -- BOINC/SETI@home network/web/science/development person -- "Any idiot can have a good idea. What is hard is to do it." - Jeanne-Claude |

Thank you for the update, Matt I hope you can go home this evening and rest for a couple of days while the systems do what you need them to do, you definitely need a break. I haven't had any work units to do since Tuesday afternoon so I'm crunching for Milky Way and as soon as SETI is back up and running I'll be back crunching for them in the meantime keep the updates coming and enjoy your weekend get rested because as we all know when you take a break from something you usually think of something you might of forgot or something that just might make it better. |

Thanks for update, I was wondering if it was just my internet connection again. I have some work to do on main computer, won't have any hesitation about stripping it down now I'm not a complete idiot, but, I'm working on it. I have an opinion and I'm not afraid to use it |

Good luck! I've been in IT for 24 years, and I feel your pain. No problem, here. I'll just let my CPU/GPUs keep themselves busy in Elite Dangerous for awhile, and give them a Seti break ;-) Cheers! -Keither |

I cant wait till then, love doing the work. one thoing though, what is the idea behind the moving around thing (for the graphics). and is there any way of putting it back to the way it was years ago?. I have been helping on and off for 12yrs. now, and would love to get my old credits back if that is possible |

one thoing though, what is the idea behind the moving around thing (for the graphics). and is there any way of putting it back to the way it was years ago? Been asked many times since 2005-ish. No, I have not seen any indication that the old graphics will ever be coming back. I have been helping on and off for 12yrs. now, and would love to get my old credits back if that is possible Have you tried following the directions on the front page? Particularly the For SETI@home Classic participants? All you need is the old email address you used when you crunched for SETI Classic. It doesn't need to be active and you don't need to remember the password for it. Note that your old credits will not be added to your new credits. The old credits will be marked in your current account separately as a memento of your past contributions. |
