So I installed the Ubuntu BOINC client and got back into crunching seti segments last night, having been away from the game for a while.

I installed it, downloaded a segment, and things were off to the races. After a little while things looked odd and it wasn't processing the segment when it seemed like it should have been, and didn't for quite some time. I couldnt figure out how to gracefully exit BOINC Manager, so I used TOP to kill the process, and after that, Boinc Manager would come up, but do nothing else. It wouldnt report that it was attached to the SETI AT HOME project, and in the command line interface it was reporting an error. I forget the exact error (something #2) and the line where it reported how much work was done on the segment said 1000000000000000 or something like that (maybe a few less zeros). OK, I was only 5% into the segment so I decided to uninstall and reinstall the boinc mgr and the boinc client as I did before through the Ubuntu Repos, and when it started the same exact thing happened.

So then I figured I needed to remove some directories that might have persisted after the uninstall and I did. There was still a ton of stuff left in the two directories mentioned on the SETI AT HOME page:

/etc/boinc-client

and

/var/lib/boinc-client/

I removed all of the files and removed the directories, and tried to install from the ubuntu repos again, but I got the same error. It would not let me attach to a project and the work done said something like 10000000000000000.

Is there something else I need to remove that I missed?

I'm not familiar with ubuntu's distro but I'll see if I can help.

I'm assuming you have the client fully re-installed?

Can you post the entire log from your boinc client?
Also can you post the output of 'ps awux | grep -i boinc' from a root login?
