I agree with what you have stated. But Id like to add also that the Russian soldier is one tough indivual. He can take abuse from his own country that would have other armies in mutiny. He is capable of enduring hardships, malnutrion, and being used as cannon fodder to defeat the enemy at all costs.
The eguipent they have to use is often describe as simple. It is, It is desinged to be simple to use and robust.
Now im not saying that I overestimate them and give them powers they dont have. But if they are well lead those tough S.O.B.'s can be a problem for those who they attack.

Hmm yes and no. No doubt that Russian soldiers are tough, but continuous mistreatment from their officers will reduce their effectiveness in combat. Which leads to higher casualties, which result in bad morale which affects combat performance.

Toughness of character is great but it doesn't measure up against being well trained, well equipped and well fed.

And dont forget they have a huge population they can use as expendables. They did so in WW2.

No they don't. There are less than 150 million Russians and that number is declining hard. Alcoholism and migration to countries that don't suck as much has taken a heavy toll on the Russian population. In terms of amount of soldiers they have left, they can only call on about somewhere between 400-500 thousand troops at best, and a good deal of those will be conscripts. They really can't afford to waste manpower like they did in WW2.

Call me naive but i think that Russia will be part of the EU within 20 years.
The EU is primarily an economic/social system and Russia is a lot like the EU.
I suspect that most countries around the world realize that little is to gained by all out war.
Only the US economy can swallow the cost of a major conflict, and they're pretty well sated.

It will take several decades before Russia do such a thing.
Putin will stay in Power Another 5 years. Perhaps even longer:(
The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU or EEU) is an economic union of states located primarily in northern Eurasia. A treaty aiming for the establishment of the EEU was signed on 29 May 2014 by the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia, and came into force on 1 January 2015.

No, it won't. The EU would gain nothing from it and Russia would gain nothing from it.

You only stated half the story.

Treaties aiming for Armenia's and Kyrgyzstan's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union were signed on 9 October 2014 and 23 December, respectively. Armenia's accession treaty came into force on 2 January 2015. Although Kyrgyzstan's accession treaty will not come into force until May 2015, provided it has been ratified, it will participate in the EEU from the day of its establishment as an acceding state

I hope you can read:)
I will PM you so we can speak more about Putin and Russia.

You're probably right.
I imagine Russians to be more spiritual, more poetic, and Europeans more jaded, smug, self-satisfied.

Europe is not a country.
Russia is a country in Europe.
We have a lot of countries in Europe.
Almost everyone having different language and Cultures.
THERE IS NO HOMOGEN CULTURE IN EUROPE.

Russia is both spiritual and poetic.

Have you been to Europe?

Tomorrow begins the celebration in Russia of the anniversary of the annexation of the Crimean peninsula. If President Putin isn't there and basking in the glory in the next few days, something really serious happened, experts say.

Russia is a country in Europe.

Not quite, you ought to know that.

Russia is both in Europe and Asia. Western or Central Russia, 40%, is in Europe, but most of it, 60%, lies in Asia but more people live in the European part. Russia's biggest cities Moscow and St Petersburg are both in Europe.

Russians living in the western Asian part don't consider themselves Asian, but culturally, Russia is European, although most of the country is in Asia.

What nonsens. The Asian part is of course Russia.
And they speak several different languages and the Cultures is very different from the the European part.
But the main interrest for Putin is Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
Look at the map. All Roads Lead to Rome. sorry to Moscow.

You're correct.

It is time to stop looking at other cultures and peoples, through your eyes.

Peoples and Cultures ARE Different. They are living in a Different Universe, and have their own beliefs.

This doesn't make them Inferior to Western European, Judeo/Christen, Culture.

Just different.

Yes and no. There are of course differences, but it would be mistaken to overstate those differences. In the end Europeans and Russians are all human beings. As such we have much more in common than we are different.

Firing on all six cylinders

I see. Scandinavian temper:)
The Finns are even more temperamental.

And the Russians.

It is useful to realise the demarcations.
The baltics include Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, about half of Croatia, Greece, the Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, most of Serbia, and the European part of Turkey.
Scandinavia comprises the three kingdoms of Norway, Denmark, and Sweden.

LOL
The Baltic states are neighbours to Sweden and are around the Baltic Sea.
Hence the name.
Scandinavia or the North, as WE call it, comprises SIX countries.
Iceland
Norway
Denmark
Sweden
Finland
Estonia

Slovenia, Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Montenegro, Serbia are the Balcan states!
That's Southern Europe:)

Bulgaria is NOT a Balcan state.

Turkey. well sort of. Instanbul is in Europe.
But most of Turkey is in Asia:):):)

The Nordic countries are a geographical and cultural region in Northern Europe and the North Atlantic. It consists of five countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden) as well as their autonomous regions (the Ã…land Islands, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland).

Happy now ....

No:(
The North are SIX countries!
Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and Estonia
Look at the flags!

Estonia (Listeni/ɛˈstoʊniə/;[10][11] Estonian: Eesti, pronounced [ˈeːsti]), officially the Republic of Estonia (Estonian: Eesti Vabariik, pronounced [ˈeːsti ˈʋɑbɑriːk]), is a country in the Baltic region of Northern Europe.

You in Sweden can call them what you like, the rest of the world doesn't.

No. It's only you who are confusing the Baltic States with the Balkan States.
And you are living in Europe:)
Baltic region:) Thats the countries around the Baltic Sea
Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Kaliningrad Russian exclave, Poland, Germany and Denmark!!!!!
You are really to much. The North doesn't care what ignorant people thinks:)
We are having a good time instead of posting 34255 silly post to SETI and being all over the Place and rude.
But I remember that we sometimes had some good chats:)
What happened today?

[good mode]
Swedish name is Estland and Eesti for "Estonia".
The People is called Eesti, hence the name Estland.
There are still Swedish ethnics in Estland who speak Swedish.
Some left from Dagö in Estland to Ukraina to Gammalsvenskby Swedish dialect: Gammölsvänskbi; literally: "Old Swedish Village"; Ukrainian Старошведське, Staroshveds'ke; German Alt-Schwedendorf) in Kherson Oblast, Ukraine 100 km from Crimea, which has a Swedish cultural heritage.
Video clip from SVT1 when russia invaded Crimea!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVj1GybAClQ
They only speak Swedish in the clip:)
When the cameraman want to put a mic on Maria Norberg she says.
"Do you want me to undress?" :):)
She also mentions Stalins Holodomor.
Maria's father died in the famine and her sisters as well:(:(
During WWII the russians invaded Ukraina and deported the Swedes to Poland for hard Labour in 7 months.
1945 when they came back the village was in ruins.
When asked about today "Do you Think that the Russians will come here?"
She answers "We don't let them in":)
"Here is people from Ukraina"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gammalsvenskby

I can order a beer in Estonia:)
The language is very close to Finnish.
My GF knows Finnish and we met some Girls in a rock Concert with the Rolling Stones who told us lot of the Russian people still living there. More than 20% are russians in Estonia

The European Union Wants an Army of Its Own
https://news.vice.com/article/the-european-union-wants-an-army-of-its-own
Not surprisingly, Russian politicians have condemned the idea and call the creation of such a force "provocative," adding that it would "not provide any additional security."
To late Putin. EU has already this army.

Brigadier General Helmut Neubauer told Lars Gyllenhaal
"I believe strongly in the European army. No Europe without a European army". And this with no doubt that Lars would take that quote and publish it.
