Message 1641678 - Posted: 14 Feb 2015, 3:59:45 UTC

Hi, I have twin NVIDIA GTX 760's on one machine and twin NVIDIA GTX 460's on another. All of them are real busy processing work units. But, the 6 cores on each machine remain idle waiting for SETI work. When I enable Milky Way, it delivers plenty of work for those cores, but nothing from SETI even when it is the only project expecting work..

What did I do wrong? Suggestions?

Thanks,
Jim Wright

Just set Milky Way to no more tasks and then see if you start to get SETI tasks instead. ;-)

Cheers.

Wiggo, Thanks for the suggestion. I had already done that and to no avail. Seems SETI does not want to send me any but the CUDA work units. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim Wright

Suspend Einstein? ;-)

Your computers are hidden there, we have no idea if you have any work there.

I'd suggest exiting BOINC, restart.
If it doesn't then pull down any CPU work, then post the messages from the Event log.

Enable sched_op_debug and show us a work request, does Boinc even ask for CPU work?

Claggy, Einstein is shut off (won't get new tasks). I tried it for a short while and observed it to be hogging the resources (both GPU and CPU). It was not playing fair, so I shut it off and purged all pending work..

You should be able to see my computer(s) on the website now.

Thanks,

Claggy, I turned on sched_op_debug as requested, stopped and started BOINC. Event log is posted below.

One line caught my eye .... at 10:03:11.. Is that the problem and is it something in App_info.xml that causes it?

Thanks,
Jim Wright

The fact there are a whole bunch of files missing, all pertaining to CPU operation, is probably the biggest issue.

I'd suggest re-running the Lunatics installer, triple check your selections for CPU (and GPU as they will be overwritten), and with a bit of luck your CPU should be processing work once again, once it's got the CPU files re-installed.

The problem is much nearer the top - a series of lines:
2/14/2015 10:02:49 PM | SETI@home | Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform
2/14/2015 10:02:49 PM | SETI@home | File referenced in app_info.xml does not exist: AKv8c_Bb_r1846_winx86_SSE2x.exe
2/14/2015 10:02:49 PM | SETI@home | File referenced in app_info.xml does not exist: libfftw3f-3.dll

2/14/2015 10:02:49 PM | SETI@home | File referenced in app_info.xml does not exist: AKv8c_Bb_r1846_winx86_SSE2x.exe

and so on...
It looks as if your carefully installed "Lunatics" files have been scrunched out of existence - possibly by a rampant AV program.
Cure is to exclude the BOINC folders from your scan, then blow away your app_info.xml, then re-run the Lunactics installer to get a clean copy of everything.

(There have been a few recent reports of some AV software being "overenthusiastic" when it comes to BOINC and some of its applications - these big AV companies don't want "small scale" software houses doing anything....)

I downloaded "Lunatics Installer v0.43a (64-bit)". NAV inspects the file and then deletes it as being unsafe. Ho-hum.

Norton (and many others) are way over the top when it comes to declaring things unsafe.
Tell it it's ok.
Lunatics installer.

Ran into same thing. Choose to trust the file anyway and have not had any issues. Or at least none I can identify.

Please use the process in you AV software to report this as false positive and to report that you trust the file. In most AV software in the warning message are links to more information. Follow them down till you find info on reporting. Will not do you much good but will help the community.

That did it! re installation of (now trusted) Lunatics completed, re-tweaked App_info.xml for optimum use of GPUs. CPU is now doing SETI work.

Thanks to all for your helpful suggestions.
