Just got seti@home setup on my Moto G. How hot is too hot for these devices? Default settings are 40 c (104 f).

Can I go much higher without destroying my battery?

Do you have any apps to check your temp? Often there is only a battery temp sensor to monitor, but it's better than nothing. As I recall my Galaxy S4 never got much over 35ºC. Which running 4 tasks at a time in my pocket or while charging.
Your mileage may vary.

Nope no batt temp apps.

I have it setup to always run when plugged in, even when in use, and its been crunching for about 14 hours without even getting warm but its only at 40% done. I am guessing it will take 24 hours to complete a work unit. It's a spare phone and I dont have cell service on it, only some games I never play.

I may take a solar panel, a small wind generator, and a 5 volt regulator to make it a solar cruncher when summer comes around.

That seems like it maybe taking a long time. As I recall I was doing ~12 a day on my Galaxy S4. Granted it is a quad 1.9GHz SoC instead of a quad 1.2GHz SoC I would expect a single task to be further along after 14 hours.
Some devices will slow the CPU down when the screen is shut off. Which it may be doing. My older phone, a MyTouch 3G slide, was like that.

total time was 29 hours, I now have all 4 cores crunching work units. I have noticed that 40c is a bit to warm for my liking so I turned it down to 35c. Its waiting for the batt to cool down as to why its taking a wile.

the device is listed under my computers. The first wu was a v6 work unit, the current 4 are v7 wu's. Maybe I should use only 2 or 3 cores to help keep it cool. It will take me a day or two to see how it is doing heat wise.

I still have mine at 40ºC. Since it never got there I didn't worry about it. When I replace a ribbon cable in my older phone I wan to run it without a batter if I am able & just hang it off a USB connection on my old notebook.

There are actually 5 applications for android:
7.21 (armv6-neon)
7.21 (armv6-vfp)
7.21 (armv7-neon)
7.21 (armv7-vfpv3d16)
7.21 (armv7-vfpv4)
Your device will have to complete 11 from each app before the server figures out which one runs the best on your hardware. You can see from my Galaxy S4 that the numbers are kind of all over the place for the apps.
