What if Russia demands a naval base in Finland or invades a Swedish Island, for instance Gotland? Three gloomy scenarios in the Baltic Sea https://disciplescientist.wordpress.com/2015/03/04/what-if-russia-demands-a-naval-base-in-finland/ Preparing for the worst is vital for every independent nation. Scenarios as possible chains of events are an important tool of assessment. Scenario 1: Åland, Finland A month ago an oil tanker with a full cargo was captured in the Baltic Sea. Two weeks ago Russia announced that there had been an attempt at sabotage on the Nordstream undersea gas pipe 40 kilometers south of Helsinki. Only a faulty radio-controller unit prevented an explosion and catastrophe. Scenario 2: Gotland, Sweden The situation in the Baltic Sea has become very tense. For Sweden and NATO countries only few diplomatic connections remain with Russia. Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia have partial mobilization in place and the state of readiness has been raised for NATO’s new vanguard troops. The Russian troops in Kaliningrad are in a state of constant readiness and they have had three readiness exercises within the last month. Scenario 3: Narva, Estonia There is a deepening split between Russia and the rest of Europe, since the invasion of Crimea and the war in eastern Ukraine. In Narva, Estonia, various non-governmental organizations have emerged, all united in their demands that all rights belonging to citizens should also be granted to minorities. The alternative the NGOs present is Narva’s separation from Estonia and joining with Russia. Voine voine:) |

Glen Beck did 10 minutes on Boris Nemtsov's murder covering the power players and what we know about the murder. I had to right click on the screen to bring up the controls under Safari and I am not sure how the links will come up on other browsers. That it was a professionally organized attack is no doubt. Nemtsov was always shadowed by the FSB, but he still could be killed on the street by people who apparently felt sure not to get arrested. In the post-Soviet Russia has the murders of opponents of President Putin re-emerged as an increasingly common problem solver for those in power. If one of the country's most famous politicians can not be protected close to the Red Square and the Kremlin, packed by securitymen and surveillance cameras, no one else should feel safe. The girlfriend of Boris Nemtsov said to have been threatened to death in Ukraine.Ukrainian police has now started an investigation into "planned assassination attempt." Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin say they have taken "all necessary measures" to protect the young Ukrainian model Hanna Durytskas life. Among other things, she got bodyguards. |

Glen Beck did 10 minutes... Talking about paranoia. Putin and Kremlin make stats how Russia is liked by other countries. Tourists from the Nordic countries have begun to lose their interest in Russia. In 2014 Russia was visited by 13 500 Swedish tourists (reduction of 25 percent), 12 700 Norwegian tourists (down 19 percent) and 13,200 Danes. The amount of tourists from Finland has been reduced dramatically to 68,600, Russian state information agency Regnum says. |

I don't know who Glen Beck is. But to do a presentation about Putin and Kremlin is something a high school graduate can do do easily. His knowledge about Alexander Dugin and Igor Girkin is a bit shallow. He also didnt mention that Putin has about 200 advisers (read yes sayers) in Kremlin. One is Sergey Markov, Putin's spokesman. When he threatened both Finland and Sweden by saying "Do you want war?" FM Lavrov said "You shouldn't pay so much attention to a single person" But doing this in 10 minutes is a good starter. |

Thats not true. the Us wa invaded in by the Brits in the was of 1812. They did burn down the white house. Plus I seem to somewhat remember that todo in New Orleans With Andrew Jackson. Michel, as of 1812, the land we had still wasn't much more than the coastal areas anyway. James, putting your point together with Michel's, it's apples and oranges. We now span (east-west) the continent. We didn't back then. Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes. |

I think the Western world can pretty much decide for themselves what REALLY happened, but of course Russia will go through the motions of a show trial to keep face. Boring. Read some FACTS instead! http://gyllenhaals.blogspot.se/ |

Michel, as of 1812, the land we had still wasn't much more than the coastal areas anyway. Well, look at a map of that time and you'll see the US consisted of a bit more than just those coastal areas. And that aside, the coastal area itself is pretty huge. In any case, my point still stands. The 2nd amendment doesn't deter nations from invading the US, the sheer size of territory that would need to be conquered, raw military power of the US army and the impossible logistics involved with such an invasion do. |

As I was speaking in general terms I see your point I should have been more specific. However by the 1840,s Wee did have a presence on the west coast. True the only weay was by ship around South America or wagon train,But many folks did make the trip. I still state that haveing two big ass oceans on both sides was a deterant utill U-boats and ICBM,s. As for the U-boats If we had listend to the Brits and had followed their convoy methods way eariler than when we did. The ships sunk off our shores would have been a lot less. I will try not to be so general in the future when I make a statement. [/quote] Old James |

Brown bear Popatpytj, 7, got along well with the attendant Misha. They were perhaps too close friends. Because the bear began to slurp vodka as often as the "caregiver" and became an alcoholic. Now Popapytj is giving compulsory care at a facility outside the Russian capital - and have learned to love milk. In the newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda there was a story of how the bear Popatpytj was taken care as a year-old bear cub by a "businessman" outside Moscow. The bear lived in a cage in the back yard of a house and was shown for the curious locals. The bear posed on its hind legs and performed all sorts of acts and "business man" / dad took charge of anyone who wanted to take photos of the bear. Then ended dad in prison because of a series of abusive transactions. His caretaker, "Uncle Misha", took charge of the house and took care of Popatpytj too. Misha liked occasionally to take a sip of vodka, yes it was indeed that he raced a bottle every day. He let the bear Popatpytj taste the strong product in small doses along with honey and sweets. The bear became accustomed to the growing rations and the two, the caregiver and the bear staggered often around together on the fields outside the village. The neighbors struck at last alarm. Although Misha weept and protested, Popatpytj was taken away. |
