For years there was and probably still is the belief, that brown eggs tasted better then white ones and were more nutritious. It was proved scientifically wrong but people still believed it. It's the same as growing your own vegetables, they always taste better than shop bought produce, yes they are fresher and not forced, but you need a pretty good palate to notice that much difference.

Yet in the States i believe it's the other way round, and white eggs are the norm.
When i was in Egypt before Christmas all the eggs there were white.

I hope this shell color preference difference doesn't mean this thread has to be moved to politics. ;-)

Hmmn, interesting point. Does a Muslim chicken's egg look & taste different than a Christian chicken's egg? :-)

Oh BTW, whatever ever happened to: -

Patience is not just a virtue, it's a must.

I say that after just doing a factory reset on an ASUS Win8 laptop and now I waiting for over a 1GB of Windows updates (that doesn't include the Win8.1 upgrade from what I can see). :-(

Cheers.

I haven't fished in years, but what I do remember with fondness is regardless of the cold & rain, the peacefulness was thoroughly enjoyable.

Also, a real fisherman would have all the necessary equipment making the cold & rain an invalid reason not to fish.

Also, a real fisherman takes time out to look at the sky & smell the roses. Some should try that some day, their patience levels might increase somewhat, to their benefit of course :-)

Well, the discussion sure changed quickly. I still need to respond to the eggs.

It used to be that one store or another usually had Large (or larger) for .99/dozen, but they've gone up in the last few years. Now, $2.09 is typical, although it really annoys me to pay that much. Aldi is usually 1.59, I think. Right now one small local grocery chain has a coupon in its weekly sale flyer to get a dozen for .99, limit 1 with additional $10 purchase.

There are people who prefer brown eggs and will pay more for them. Some people will also pay more, over $3/dozen, for organic and other fancy kinds of eggs. I say bah to that.

There are a couple of places I pass on my way to the museum that sell their own fresh eggs, without all the inspection and processing necessary for grocery stores, but they actually cost more, not less, than the store.

Topic: I have little patience for high food prices.

Way back in the last century, I had a university room mate who had grown up on a Michigan farm. Part of his daily chores had been to collect eggs in the morning, clean them, and take them in to town to deliver to customers. After some customers said they would pay extra for "really fresh" eggs, he started keeping some eggs uncleaned, and then charged extra for them.

There's a story that one time Samuel Insull, the Chicago utility mogul who also owned several interurban railroads, was riding a train on his South Shore Line in Indiana. The he asked the conductor to ask the engineer if he couldn't go just a little faster. The conductor relayed the request. The train was already going 90, but the track was so smooth you couldn't tell. The engineer started randomly setting and releasing the brakes a little bit, causing some jerkiness and actually losing speed, but when the conductor returned, Mr. Insull said that was just fine.

All this fuss over eggs. They're all the same when they're fried scrambled or boiled.

Please yourself. I flatly refuse to buy eggs from caged hens. Nor will I buy "Barn eggs" either. I will pay extra for free range eggs as a matter of principle and animal welfare. So bah to you too!

Free Range a/k/a the salmonella special chicken s*** everywhere egg, triple antibiotics for the hens and dump the eggs in a chemical bath that makes pink slime look appealing. ;-)

Well I had thought better of both of you but I see we have descended to name calling and insults.

It is not pretty, has absolutely nothing to do with the other posters on these forums so please take it off line.

Further posts that snipe at each other will be hidden.

You both know better.

Thank you.
