Well one advantage of being on the West Coast is that I have been able to listen to the live election coverage while marking my midterm exams. Some of my students seem to have had a Lib Dem experience during that exam. ...and considering that it looks like another tory government, the other advantage is that I no longer live in the UK. If I do ever move back I think it will be to Scotland. Reality Internet Personality |

Indeed so Angela, but we rarely get the politicians we need....just the usual collection of liars and self-serving spivs! Don't take life too seriously, as you'll never come out of it alive! |

What I find worrying is that for the past several months here in East Anglia as well as the East & West Midlands, the groundswell of disillusionment with the 2 major parties in that it's time for change & let's have someone else have a shot, only to see the Tories race ahead. Still waiting the outcome of the local elections, but based on what has happened in the General Election... ...all I can say is 5 more years of soundbites & to quote Major Kong, "Bovine Excrement". |

It's difficult to comment Sirius, because we don't have a viable 3rd party. I'll tall more about it in the other thread. Agree. Unfortunately, all this has done is to hand over the keys to Britain to Merkel... ...that's going to come back & haunt all at Westminster... ...but as seen over the past 5 years, do they care? |

Late edit - Farage has resigned minutes ago. He said he would resign if he didn't win, and he has. Clearly not fit be be a politician if he's going to so flagrantly stick to his word like that! Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

Late edit - Farage has resigned minutes ago. But he's now saying he's taking a summer break & may stand again in the leadership contest... ...the makings of a true politician :-) One point to note is that UKIP got more votes than the SNP & Lib-Dems combined, yet only get the one seat. At least UKIP has shown all that is wrong with our current system. |

Milliband has now resigned, all three gone ..... That's not good. That's the next 12 months with the "Smug One" having a free ride. |

I was checking out today's XKCD comic and I thought of this thread. Perhaps the levity will be appreciated? |

Tories now at 327 seats, so a majority without needing any number fiddling concerning the Irish parties who don't bother to turn up. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

Indeed, a majority. A majority of the electorate didn't vote for them! Don't take life too seriously, as you'll never come out of it alive! |

A majority of the electorate didn't vote for them! That statement holds true for all parties though. 63.2% didn't vote for the Conservatives, 69.5% didn't vote for Labour, 87.3% didn't vote for UKIP, etc. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

A majority of the electorate didn't vote for them! Which is why change is sorely needed. |
