Early morning pints are of course a fiction of your imagination.

Early Morning Pints still a great tradition :-)

Don't try and think your London form of life is the normal. In most parts of the country, outside large cities, early morning delivery is the norm, for those willing to pay the extra.

Will you two cut it out!

I cordially invite you to please refer the matter to the Mod Team at seti_moderators@ssl.berkeley.edu I am more than happy to defend my corner at any time, and in fact would welcome the opportunity to do so.

For the same reason that i wouldn't call the police if my neighbours were being a rowdy, no.

The following is stated with the best of intentions & with all honesty.

Your posting style for the past several months or more have been inconsistent but what is seen is your blatant attacks on people.

I politely suggest that you see your doctor ASAP. If I get canned for this, fair do, but I'm stating publicly what many are saying privately.

On a more personal basis, you're making too many assumptions & we all know

There's a society at this university who are planning a campaign the weekend of the 21st in neighbouring constituency where it's possible that UKIP might win a seat at the next election.
Quote from an email i recieved: "UKIP boast that it will win several seats and, more worryingly, could hold the balance of power in a hung parliament, we need to stop this from happening!"

Which to me reads: A party we don't agree with might win seats in a free and democratic election.

That's the risk you take in a democracy. The party with the most support wins and the smaller parties whine that the wrong people were elected.

Here I go breaking the unwritten rule about multiple posts in a row, but better that than yet another thread I think.

I estimated that UKIP might get up to 6 seats, I'll amend that to 3 or 4 after this. I don't think that Farage has done himself or his party any favours there. We used to see signs up in boarding houses "No blacks or Irish" but not now. Neither do we want to see signs outside factories "We don't hire blacks or poles".

BBC

Among the people i grew up with in rural north yorkshire, that's much more likely to win him support than lose it.

Sorry Simon, I will decline to comment.

I was the first person in my family to go to university, therefore i consider myself the most enlightened of the bunch. Life and work at the university brings me into daily contact with people of all races, colours and creeds; and something i realised quite quickly is that none of that matters. We're all people, your background isn't important, it's how one behaves that is important.

However, i'm yet to convince the rest of my family of this. I love them dearly, but my god they can be a bunch of racist bigots at times. Particularly my grandparents, they live in Colne, near Burnley in Lancashire, and they consider people from Blackburn to be foreign. (Here's a google maps link to put this in context)
They weren't keen when my parents moved to "the wrong side of t'hill" (Yorkshire) when i was very young. Even though the attitudes of the locals wasn't that much different.
Going to university in "the South" as i did, i may as well have been on Mars.

I did say that 2015 would be a Goodyear, but after reading these reports, think it will be a total bad year as it will be just the two tired & weary rethreads.

Is this Clegg's final election?

I think that Mr Farage may have shot himself in the foot, by saying he would form a pact with the Tories. In spite of all the huge spending cuts, the famous deficit seems to have grown, so, the last thing this country needs, is another five years of the madness we've seen!

New aircraft scrapped (Nimrod 4's....about £4Bn). Harriers sold after expensive overhauls (which cost more than what the Harriers were sold for!) and before they had any aircraft to go on the new aircraft carrier(s), which themselves had their specs changed back at greater cost. Experienced service personnel 'shown the door' whilst still trying to recruit new people and hoping to fill any gaps with reservists. The size of the Civil Service, especially those at the MoD, remaining virtually unchanged in spite of far fewer personnel in HM Forces. The list is almost endless.

Frankly, until these politicians are made to pay for their incompetence, out of their own pockets, it will keep happening. Until then, or until there is a revolution, the people of this country will get screwed to pay for their mistakes! As an aside, my contract was recently terminated on Health and Capability grounds....I had a feeling it was coming as it was widely known that there was another round of spending cuts coming in April. Still, at least getting rid of me, was cheap!

I hope people will vote for the policies that they want to see and not for the personalities behind them.

That would help if those that govern, actually do so without arguing with themselves over party politics...

Nice coalition

Expect more of the same, everyone is fighting for their political lives at the moment.

& therein lies the biggest problem facing this country! They should be fighting for the country, not their own snouts at the trough.

Seems UKIP are finally becoming a proper political party:

UKIP suspends MEP Janice Atkinson over expenses claim

A UKIP MEP and general election candidate has been suspended "following allegations of a serious financial nature", the party says.

Janice Atkinson, MEP for the South East, was due to fight the Folkestone and Hythe seat on 7 May.

She was suspended following a Sun newspaper investigation into potential impropriety by a member of her staff, relating to an expenses claim.

I'll definitely be voting in May, for the Monster Raving Looney party!

Changing your tune are we?
Those who are not squeaky clean are having to fall on their swords across all parties in the run-up to May. This is in response to the Media carrying out a witch hunt because of the General Election. The question that hangs in the air is, would all of these "anomalies" have been got away with 2 years ago? If so, how many, if any, were got away with?

That was pointed out back then on various threads on this board. Your replies? Ridiculing & name calling - Hmmn I recall the word "RABID" being used.

But when you stand back and take an overall view, it's not good. If as expected there is indeed another hung parliament in May, that will be the second time in 5 years that in effect the general public has said, we don't trust either of the two main parties to give them a majority to run the country with a free hand. Should that be a bit worrying? It is to me.

Then allow others to hold their views, worrying or not.

Politics today is nothing but a free ride on the gravy train.

I sincerely apologise for three posts in a row, something I have told others off for in the past, but this news item just in, justifies it I feel.

I may not agree with Farage's politics, but this is totally unacceptable, and shouldn't happen in a supposedly civilised country. I said it would get dirty, but I didn't foresee this type of thing. Perhaps I should have done?

You a mind reader now? The point being made was fiddling & as you are so fond of pointing out the "other" parties failures, thought it would even the picture to point out your party's failings.

What's wrong with that? After all, regardless of what party they are in, fiddling is fiddling unless you have something else to label it as?

Well certainly came across to me that your point was not so much that "fiddling" was occurring but that they were "all at it" or is that not what you were implying?

Why don't you pop into Westminster & ask them? But be prepared to receive a more than straight forward answer :-)
