Absolute undeniable proof would be a craft flying into our atmosphere and landing. With an alien then popping out and saying "Greetings". I don't care if you think I'm crazy... rOZZ Music Pictures |

I think there must be some sort of life somewhere out there in the universe, if not in our galaxy. Probably a whole lot less of it than is portrayed in the popular science fiction. If there is a lot of it, I like the model of interstellar civilization presented by Hitchhiker's: they're doing their thing, and ignoring us because we haven't developed to the point where we can join them. When we do, fine. Until then, we're not worth bothering with... unless someone out there can make a buck on us. I also like this model for its greater diversity in types of life: "humanoids, fishoids, walking-tree-oids..." (Perhaps not superintelligent shades of the color blue.) There is a very good basic reason behind the preponderance of humanoids in the Star Trek model: as Gene Roddenberry once said, there are no non-humans in the Screen Actors Guild. But, aside from Hortas, Xindi Aquatics, and the odd shapeshifter, we've never seen anything in Trek that didn't follow the same basic form as us, and I can't believe that's realistic. That last sentence leads me to the conclusion that we're being too self-centric in our SETI efforts. If life evolves completely differently on another planet, it will probably develop completely different technology too, of a kind that we don't have the imagination to look for. One fantasy I like to entertain is that WE are actually the progenitors portrayed in ST:TNG The Chase. I.e., a few hundred or thousand years from now, we will have developed space travel technology, only to find that there is no one else out there, so we will seed life in our image on other planets. As for time travel, I find overwhelmingly, but not quite absolutely, convincing the argument that if it were possible, we'd know about it already. There's just no way it could be kept away from people who would use it recklessly. LOL @ Julie. No one regardless of IQ, has control when a nervous break down happens. As to ET, I am with most of you, I think our search is to refined, none the less, I will continue to crunch, as you just never know. Pluto will always be a planet to me. Thank you Julie, as we both speak B/Genlish. I should be honest. At one point in my life, I was able to communicate in German, English, French and Dutch. Now I am laging on the last two. Pluto will always be a planet to me. Seti Ambassador Not to late to order an Anni Shirt |

Julie, Uli -- I have to tell this little experience, at a Starbucks, in Lexington, last week. Arriving at my table were three young ladies, each with a 5 year-old daughter. What was somewhat unusual, was that all of them were talking a mile-a-minute in German, as were their daughters. Not able to remain silent, I joined in. They were from München, Köln, and, I believe, Stuttgart. Amazingly enough, they didn't mind talking to me in German (Most Germans I know prefer to talk in English -- sad.). It turns out, they were all German teachers, in Cambridge, Watertown, and, I think, Lexington school systems. Their daughters were regular live-wires, and threatened to drown us out. So, I very seriously suggested that they "Sei ruhig, bitte!" Laughter, all around. I hope they return. There aren't, unfortunately, many opportunities to converse in a "foreign" language, except for Spanish and Chinese (Mandarin). Fine languages, but. . . Cheers, ladies, :o) |

Are we alone? not a chance in hell. I seen my UFO 3 years ago and this is no lie, that thing did things no one could do in seconds and hooked up with a mother ship about 300 feet long parked in a fog. Their was 3 ufo's -at the time. I don't care if no one beleaves me, I seen what I seen and no one can change my mined. I'm not the only one that did that night. Only one I ever seen in my life. took out of here in a flash maybe 2000 MPH, I kid you not. some people think I'm nuts but let them think that. We aren't alone. Cheers everybody Life is short so don't sip Beer speaks, people mumble |

Definitely not alone. One night, when I was walking the dog, back in the early 80's, I saw a light in the sky and watched it. As it seemed to be moving at quite a speed, I was quite intrigued as it was nothing unusual to have jets from RNAS Yeovilton flying over, but very rarely at night and we were also on Concorde's flight-path to the USA. It made quite a number of changes in it's direction and finally went from very rapid horizontal 'flight' to a near-vertical climb in an instant....quite clearly, 'not one of ours', given that it climbed out of sight in around five or six seconds! I suppose I'd be what you'd call a reliable witness, as I was serving in the RAF at the time and it was also a perfectly clear night. Indeed, it was because it was a clear night, that I noticed it, as I was looking at the stars. Anyway, must dash, Idris is taking me to Gallifrey. Don't take life too seriously, as you'll never come out of it alive! |

I took two years of Spanish in high school and still remember some of it. The pronunciation and syntax stuck with me more than the vocabulary, really. I suppose I know a few common words of other major languages too. Oui, non, merci, bon jour, sacre bleu, merde. Ja, nein, bitte schoen, danke schoen. Probably some others that aren't coming to me right now. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

I didn't say that Uli. I'm not talking about IQ but about inner strength. I will let it rest (for) now... I understand that when this project first started it was known as STI - Search for Terrestrial Intelligence, but gave up after a remarkably short time, having determined it would be a futile process.
