Message 1633575 - Posted: 27 Jan 2015, 15:56:02 UTC - in response to Message 1633496.

Some people are trying to put in a voter referendum option here in Kentucky that would allow individual cities to create a temporary additional sales tax to fund certain agreed upon local civic projects.

I also just read about a rogue mistletoe drone at a TGI Friday's restaurant.

In Illinois, any city, county, or township (I think) can create a sales tax, either temporary to pay the bonds on a capital project or permanent for a special purpose or just general revenue.

A lot of people gripe about how low the income taxes are here in the USA. We are taxed left and right. Sales Tax, Use Tax, Real Estate, Ciggy Tax etc pp.
Walk into any store in Germany and you know your purchorses(?) price, here in the US you have to add the Local Sales Tax plus the State Tax and possibly a City Tax.

And everyone here is used to doing this, it's a necessary cost of being civilized and living in civilization, I've got $100 in property taxes coming up in April, but I don't mind, the taxes help pay for goods and services, like roads and the uhf tv signal that I have access to as 2 examples.

My boss has a Prime account here at work. Last week she ordered some books. Some of the packages arrived on Sunday. Being a school, we were closed. she had to go through the notification emails for each package and request redelivery so they wouldn't be sent back and have to be reordered.

I'm in the "I can wait for the cheapest delivery" camp. I don't buy a lot from them anyway.

David,

You boss can go to her preferences on delivery on amazon and unclick the deliver on weekend option.

Zalster

I don't see that setting in my account. Is it in the Prime settings?

Is your $100 property tax bill for the whole year? I can't remember if you said you own the land your mobile home sits on, but even if you don't, that's a crazy low amount.

Yeah...my little kitty shack is taxed at about $2,800 per annum. Rain or shine, the tax man cometh.

a peppercorn tax

Never heard that term, but I wouldn't think tax is paid on rented land, anyway. My property tax covers the land I own + the physical structure(referred to as the "improvement").

The tax is $200 a year, the space rent is $215 a month, trash $15, water $30, electricity and nat gas are all extra, I'd like to own the land, but I don't, to own some land I'd have to move the home about 55 miles and I'd need $15,000 to $20,000 total for that, the $15K to $20K includes teardown, setup, transport ($600 for transport?) and buying the land, the land is $10,000 currently.

My best friend used to live in a mobile home like Vic's. People could either own the home outright and pay rent to the park (landowner) for the land it sat on, or rent the home from the park as well. People were not supposed to own homes and rent them to others, but some did anyway.

The rent for the land included water and septic service, and garbage disposal. I believe the park is in an unincorporated enclave within the city, so the park had its own water well and (I suppose) its own septic system. Garbage collection was done by a private contractor. Electrical service is arranged directly with the utility just like any other house. So is gas.

In his town (Aurora), residential garbage collection is contracted by the city and (at least partially) paid for by stickers people buy at grocery stores (or city hall, I think) and put on each receptacle that's put out for collection. (They have a similar arrangement if you want your yard waste collected.) Part of the reason for doing it this way is to encourage recycling, which is collected for free (well, paid out of taxes). The more you recycle, the fewer stickers you need to buy.

Here in Naperville, we trust ourselves to recycle without having to buy garbage stickers, but we do have them for yard waste (to encourage just leaving grass clippings to compost back into the soil). There is a period of free brush and leaf collection in the fall.

To answer your question Gordon. Vic pays property taxes on the Mobile Home, the Park pays the Property taxes on the Land. If Vic would be filing taxes here in California, he would be able to take a Non Refundable Renters Credit deduction.

Filing for taxes is something I can't do as the SSA/IRS says SSI is not taxable since SSI is unearned income, so there are more than a few things I can't do, Congress could fix SSI and update the law, but chooses not to, SSI is not popular enough I was told.

Though I can get a loan or a mortgage, though I am rather limited in what I can afford.

Well, I'll tell ya, getting back to Amazon, I love getting stuff from them, and they are smart... I currently have 4 items in my cart, and to get Free Shipping, I need "just" 39 cents more. Ha! ;~} They do this all the time. They seem to have some sort of built-in program that adjusts prices on stuff in the cart so you have to buy more to get the free shipping. Devious, but smart on their part. ;~}

I'm fine with standard free shipping for orders over $35, or $3.99 for non-eligible items (except it irks me that if I order two of the same thing, I get charged 2x$3.99 shipping).

I placed a large order here at work last Friday. Amazon shipped one box on Saturday and on Monday UPS couldn't deliver it because we were closed due to the snow. (Which seems odd to me. There certainly were some staff here.)

I need to be more careful about what I order, though. One of the movies I bought turned out to be in 4:3 fullscreen.

And in your case it will never be. Just be happy. I don't mind filing returns, but most people out there don't.

@David I love my one cent books and don't mind spending $3.99 in shipping, since most are hardcovers from Goodwill and in prime condition.

I would like to see Amazon except Paypal tho. One big negative.
