I'm running six projects on my BOINC, but at the moment, it's only running Climate Prediction and SETI@home, and they appear to be frozen. CP has been stuck at 9.419% and SETI at 98.183% for at least the last week. Should I be worried? I should probably add that I have just gotten a new desktop that runs Ubuntu Mint. Then abort it. It's most probably already run by other computers. Check its outcome in your task list. |

Done. Thanks for your help. I've noticed that the dates on my statistics only go to December 14th. I don't know what to make of it. Please keep in mind that I am not computer literate. Please make all answers the best layman's terms you have. |

Maybe I need to clarify. Aren't they supposed to go up to the present day? Correct me if I'm wrong. Please keep in mind that I am not computer literate. Please make all answers the best layman's terms you have. |

Maybe I ought to switch back to PC if it's going to take longer than a month to answer a question... :( Please keep in mind that I am not computer literate. Please make all answers the best layman's terms you have. |

I don't know what statistics you're talking about, at least the ones on statistics sites, such as here at BOINCstats shows you having current credit and added per day. So what do you mean? The Statistics tab in BOINC Manager perhaps? Why not make an image and put that on an image site such as Photobucket, Imgur or Flickr, and link to it? |

I am talking about the Statistics tab, and the fact that my BOINC manager is completely frozen to begin with. How do I get it out of its frozen state? No progress whatsoever is being made. Well, since we're in the Linux forum, and you have your computers hidden, you could probably start with explaining: - which BOINC version we're talking about. - was BOINC installed from Berkeley or from repository? - is the BOINC client even running? Starting BOINC Manager under Linux will NOT start the BOINC client. - what have you tried to remedy thing? (reboot, exit&restart BOINC manager, adjusting of possible libraries, restarting X?) - are you trying to remotely log in, or is this local? - have you tried to use the BOINCCMD tool to command BOINC (requires you to run the client first)? As for the problem, you really have to be more eloquent about it. Thus far in this thread you've given no hint that things were this wrong. So why not explain it to us? Or as I say on the BOINC forums: When you have problems with BOINC, first and foremost, do not panic. We do understand that software can be quite finicky at times, and that it can be very frustrating to get things right. But really, getting your blood pressure up, swearing at it, throwing things at it, is all not going to help you, instead possibly hinder even. Coming here on our forums you think that you know what your problem is. You see your problem, you've lived with it for some time now, so all you have to do is explain to us what it is that you see. It's quite difficult for any of the helping crew to get to help you when you do not give any information about what you actually see. Source, could also be useful for hints on what info we need. |

I'm running version 7.2.42. My techie friend installed it more than likely through Linux Mint downloads rather than from the Berkeley page. Don't know what "repository" means. Please assume that I'm not computer literate, which would be a correct assumption. I have no idea if it's running or how to find out. Linux doesn't do visuals with BOINC. My BOINC manager has shown no progress for longer than a month. The only way I've tried to remedy this is by asking the tech staff via this thread. Makes me wonder why nobody asked me to clarify until I got cranky about it. Was everybody just willing me telepathically? I'm not logging in remotely. Don't know what the BOINCCMD tool is, but I've clicked on that link. For host and password, do I use my computer name and password, or my username and password for this site? Don't know how to be more eloquent about something I know virtually nothing about. As I said, I'm not computer literate. Please keep in mind that I am not computer literate. Well, I put that login into the terminal, and it downloaded a Rosetta work unit, but again, it froze halfway through. Please keep in mind that I am not computer literate. Please make all answers the best layman's terms you have. |

/points right. Him over there. He's annoying anyway. ;-) It looks like the Linux buffs aren't much around here. So instead, seeing how you seem to have a BOINC problem, what you can do is come over to the BOINC forums and post your plight there. About BOINC being frozen, that is. You do need to register separately on the forums there, if you haven't done so already. Since it isn't a project, your BOINC is in no way attached to it and thus you do not have an account there by default. (the spammers do, but I kick them off daily. :)) That way I can email some of the Linux buffs and ask them to come over and possibly offer you some advice. My knowledge of BOINC is great, but of Linux is about as much as you can find in the third drawer of the sock cabinet. |
