Yep, I have to confess that I understood more than a bit of the bit about fashioning weapons from seemingly innocuous items. Lets just say that the simple ball-point pen, really can be as mighty as the sword....I always have a ball-point pen about my person.

Glad you mentioned the mobile phone, Chris. I honestly regard the mobile phone as the worst thing ever made, aside from certain 'Iron Curtain' cars, the Channel Tunnel, any number of 'modern architectural wonders' and much, much more! The damage that the mobile phone has done, is out of all proportion to it's size and instead of being a tool, it is, to many, a master!

In a World, where stupidity seems to be regarded as a virtue, did no-one stop and think about how much more stupid, something like a 'smart phone' would make an increasingly large number of people, especially when education standards, appear to have fallen off a cliff? Zombies walk the streets. Oblivious to everything around them, they walk into the paths of cars, buses and other people also using their precious 'smart phones'...often, they will collide with buildings that have been in the same place for decades, while sending a message to someone 10' away. You only have to look at the behaviour of some people in Sydney last week, to see what I'm getting at. Is technology reaching the point, where it almost encourages 'stupidity'?

Yours, Jemima Clarkson (I'm sorely tempted to change my name!)

After 9-11 anyone who tries to hijack a plane or terrorize anyone with a pen knife, Or box cutter deserves to be beat to death by his suppoessed victims.
You can make a weapon out of a rolled up magazine or newspaper. Hell, When I was in the service they showed us how to make a edged weapon out of a filterd cigarret.

..

My former students showed me that. They also showed me how you can sharpen the edge of your cell phone to cut someone.

They were pretty ingenious at making shanks out of most things. Bless them.

My phone, through some accident, has a rough edge that I suppose could become sharp enough to be a weapon.

It really was a Swiss Army knife.

I'm surprised the Feinstein Boxer's of my government haven't declared that item a weapon of war and made possession of it a capital offense.

Im really suprised you can still buy real silver ware to eat with. heaven forbid it could be used as a weapon. I say that tongue in cheek. But for crying out loud when does it stop?

Britain actually considers banning long, pointed kitchen knives, which may include steak knives. There really is no limit to this nonsense. I'm waiting for the day where I go to a restaurant and have to try eating my steak with a butter knife. I'll probably take it into my hands and chew it like a cave man, trying to make as much grunting noise as possible.

...actually the law was for the carrying of long bladed, sharp, knives, in public with "no good cause".

(Good cause being the legal phrase that would allows Joe Public to do something with good intent, such as carry a box of knives with the intent of giving them as a gift or carry them home from the shop; a gang member carrying a similar knife would find it hard to use "good cause" as a defense)

Not sure where your are located or if you know about it, but in the United States we have shows called Midieval Times where the show consist of knights on horse back battling it out with swords while the audiance eats dinner without the benefit of silverware.

Mine's arrived!

One thing you can't see from the photos, it's completely blunt! Fortunately, as a scout, i have a pocket sharpener. How long it will hold it's sharpness for remains to be seen.

I once ran across a knife with a carbide edge on it. While the edge would withstand a good deal of use, the owner through abuse was able to destroy the edge, I would have sharpened it but it takes a very soft grinding wheel to cut that material and I didn't have access to one.

A guy I work with orderd one from Amazon. His blade was fairly sharp. It would not shave the hair off of my arm but was sharp enough to do what they advertised.
However it sure seemed really flimsy if you had to use it in a knife fight. You have to hold it realy close to the top of the handle and blade to make sure it wouldnt fail and come back and bite your own fingers.
As cardboard box opener yeah its ok. As a last ditch defense weapon. Maybe. As an offensive weapon to do criminal misdeads. I will whip you death with my leather belt and its substanial belt buckel. I
Its being way over hyped as a terrorist weapon.
