Message 1604970 - Posted: 24 Nov 2014, 19:56:54 UTC - in response to Message 1604960.

Doing further reading in the Thread linked by Zalster, I have found that the latest BOINC may also limit me... Something about the latest versions of BOINC seeing the GTX275 for what it is; and, how old it is, and will prevent AP's from being downloaded to the system...

If this is the case; which BOINC should I use for this system??? The oldest BOINC I have downloaded on Exeter, (the system with my GTX760), is 7.2.42. If I go to my laptop, Voyager, I'm sure I can find older than that; however, I don't want to go back too far, just far enough that I will get AP v7 work for the GTX275.

Thanks again everyone. :-)

It's not the Boinc version that will prevent you getting Astropulse (Boinc 7.4.27 had the Pre-Fermi disablement removed),
But the driver version, If you are unwise enough to install the 340.5x drivers, the scheduler will prevent you from getting Astropulse tasks for the GTX275.

You're quite free to run Boinc 7.4.27

Thanks Claggy.

So, I'll run NVIDIA driver 266.58, install BOINC 7.4.27, and Lunatics 0.43a. If Lunatics will let me choose CUDA23 for MB I'll use that; otherwise, I'll stick with CUDA32, and I'll let Lunatics take care of AP v7.

Thanks everyone. :-)

CUDA32 is the best MB pick for that GPU and if you plan on doing any AP's on it then make sure that you use a pre 340.xx driver (but using a pre 340.xx driver won't hurt if you're just doing MB's only anyway).

With your CPU it would be best to upgrade to a better HSF if you plan on crunching with it as well as the standard unit will not cope well.

Use the 0.43a version of Lunatics. ;-)

Cheers.

With 266.58, CUDA32 would be the only option as that is the maximum version that the driver came with.

It's a pre-Fermi, He can choose the Cuda23 app too, and he might find it a little bit faster than the Cuda32 app.

i think this applies to you. Might be ok for Einstein though...

Thanks Zalster. Through that link; I've found that I need Driver 266.58 for Win 7 Pro x64. That should allow me to crunch AP...

Now, what about MB??? Which CUDA flavor do I want to select in Lunatics??? Do I even want Lunatics 0.43a; or, should I use an older Lunatics? I have 0.41, 0.43, and 0.43a all downloaded that I can transfer to the E5200 via USB Flash Drive. I don't; however, have 0.42...

Message 1604688 - Posted: 24 Nov 2014, 0:45:47 UTC

I just inherited a Pentium E5200 with an NVIDIA GTX275 GPU. Will it crunch AP; once we start getting work again???

I don't have the system turned on, yet. I need to get a keyboard and mouse; and I have a monitor being donated to me. The system has an 80 GB IDE drive; NO DVD, yet, I will be adding a SATA DVD. (Found SATA Port right next to the GTX275.) Installed OS is Win 7 Pro x64. NVIDIA card is on latest driver; as told to me by the donor of the system.

I would be interested in also installing Lunatics; but, need to know what settings to select in Lunatics. (CUDA50, 42, or 32, etc...???...)

OS is NOT activated; will need a key for that...

MOBO is Gigabyte; CPU has stock Intel cooling fan. System has 8 GB RAM. PSU is unknown... I would need to pull it to get info. It is installed in the bottom of the case; NOT the top, where I usually see PSU's. Case is full size ATX with two case fans; one at the top of the case, and one at the back and top of the case.

Thanks in advance for assistance. :-)
