Would it be possible or worthwhile to re-send _2 or _3 copies of tasks that have been sent to hosts that appear to be inactive for long periods, e.g. 21 or 30 days ?

Seti can run on 5.10.45, my question is;
"Are there any other projects that can run without the need for client 7.0?"

I understand Seti is out of work for us to process temporarily. I use my servers as a source of heat and run Seti@home nonstop with them to keep the CPU's Hot. Since the workload has come to a stand still I have become in need of running another project to push the servers so they give me the byproduct heat that I need right now. Downfall to all this is that I run a version of BOINC that is older due to crash issues with my servers (Dell Poweredge 2850 Dual Xeon 64-Bit) The version I run is 5.10.45 I have no issues with this version for running Seti other than it is not compatible with other projects that I try to "ADD". They all seem to require client 7.0 Are there any projects that can run without the need for client 7.0? At least until Seti returns.

If I try to install client 7.0 it gives me an error on every machine, i forgot the error but can recreate it and notate what it says next time. Thanks for any pointers

You'd be better asking that question at the BOINC Message boards (requires separate account and login), but in principle the vast majority of BOINC projects will be perfectly happy with BOINC v5.10.45

There is a known restriction with installing BOINC v6 or v7 on servers, if they are configured as Windows Domain Controllers: the installer won't permit it. Apart from that, shouldn't be a problem.

The BOINC v5.10.45 client can't process tasks intended for a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) - a high-power video card. But even that shouldn't prevent you adding projects. Any project that has plain-vanilla CPU applications - and the vast majority do - should be fine. If you have ongoing problems 'attaching' to projects (as the old terminology has it - 'add' a project is a newer innovation), ask at the BOINC website, and be ready to post which project(s) you've tried attaching to, and the exact wording of any error message you see.

As a first, my GPU was idle because both GPU projects i had on have no GPU units. Sigh. So i turned on a third GPU project. And now a 4th. That worked. I only have one more backup. After that, apparently, i need to upgrade my video driver to get my 6th to work. It's such a PITA, and it's less than a year old. Maybe over xmas break.

Even WCG? That is strange.

I noticed that some BOINC 6 version are still running on some machines I have installed on to...maybe you can make an upgrade?

Hi! I still do not receive work units. Is that correct? And if not, how do I get new work units?

Thanks for that reply, I am aware of the deadlines, and currently only have one host attached to S@H. It is probably one of the slowest hosts in regular use, I never have problems meeting S@H deadlines although I do occasionally with LHC.

I meant to suggest EARLY Re-Sends of some or all the tasks that have not been received within a specified time period to be set by the project staff, as I suspect many or most of these would eventually be re-sent when they did hit the deadline. If the original _0 or _1 Task is still received within the original deadline, it would still receive credit, even if it was the 3rd result received.

Message 1603201 - Posted: 20 Nov 2014, 18:16:36 UTC

I am a bit confused by both the front page and what my computers are experiencing.

On the front page, it says "We are likely to (temporarily) run out of workunits to process as soon as this weekend." But that is dated seven days ago, so "this weekend" would be November 15-16. And indeed my two working computers had run out / low on work units this earlier this week.

OTOH, one of them received 38 new tasks just before 10 last night (PDT). So this morning when I looked at that, I thought the drought was over. (It also rained here overnight, coincidentally.)

So when my other computer couldn't get any WU, I wondered why the one computer could get some. Was it just lucky and asked for some at the brief moment when some were available?

When I look at the Splitter status I only see two channels presumably producing. Is this an accurate reading of that? Is there any forecast of when this will be back to normal?

You have to remember about WUs being up-chucked on another users machine or time limits reached on those out in the wild. Those will be resent and processed by someone else.
