Check the notices tab in boinc Manager, or visit the home page at Seti@home ;-)

Nobody is sure right now. It will take about a week to get the data base back up BUT they have also run out of data to split. They are working on obtaining data from several sources and when the data becomes available we will have plenty to crunch. The problem is nobody is sure when they will be able to mount the data for processing. Keep watching the update posts and you will see the latest status.

slower machines are still processing.... faster ones have finished their allotment. still they keep me warm in my "man-cave". when more data is available... it will be gladly welcomed... and yes .... this IS addictive !! :-)

Nice IF one has the money to cover the leccy bill. My inability to do so in 2012 put me offline for some considerable time..

Yep! However, my intent was to indicate that the money to cover the electric bill for 24/7/365 regardless of S@H is indeed present in my current circumstance. Were I not that fortunate, some decisions would have to be made....

Have a good one, Cliff!

Hi GS,

Long may it continue to be so:-)

Over here the power generators tend to put prices up by 30% one month and then another 40% a couple of months later, all according to them due to the price of oil & gas they use.. I once managed to get my quarterly power bill down to £64

The next month the prices went sky high:-(

Funny thing is that when the price of oil & gas fall to record lows, somehow or other about the max drop in price is under 11%..

And with a spineless Govt that wont hammer them with an excess profits tax, just put up VAT [sales tax] there isn't any incentive for those barstewards to actually lower their prices:-/

Ahh well rant over:-)

Regards,
Cliff,
Been there, Done that, Still no damm T shirt!

Sorry but I'm a noob...

because of funding, Astronomy isn't top dog at Arecibo anymore, so Astronomers get a smaller fraction of the observing time.

If not Astronomy what?

If you read the thread that question has already been answered:

Message 1602823

The Arecibo telescope's original purpose was to study the ionosphere, which was not very well understood in the 1950s. That it was built so large was a lucky accident. The ionospheric studies originally planned could have been accomplished with a much smaller dish, but there was a mistake in one of the sensitivity calculations. The ionosphere observations are still going on.

Then there are planetary radar observations of Near Earth Objects (NEOs). I guess that qualifies as astronomy, but we can't observe for SETI@home during them.

Looking at the schedules it appears that the decreased astronomy time is a small fraction of the change. The larger change is that fewer projects are using the GALFA receiver. The 327MHz pulsar survey is getting a lot of time as are smaller single beam projects using the L-wide receiver. We don't yet have the ability to record through SERENDIP VI, or we could piggyback on those project, too.
