Non-computer literate senior -- been running SETI for several years needs help with computer settings. I had a Dell Laptop using Xp and everything was fine. I enjoy the SETI screen saver and just let it run whenever the computer is turned on. I purchased a replacement laptop (Hp Envy 17)running WIN7 and simply cannot get the SETI screen saver to function. I have tried every conceivable configuration without success. The SETI screen saver comes up for a very brief moment and then the screen returns to "normal" presentation (less than .5 secs). Regular WIN7 screen savers work just fine. I only have SETI -- have never installed (or tried to install) anything else from BOINC; so all the intricate BOINC settings mean nothing to me (quite frankly wish there was no BOINC) -- life was much easier before BOINC. Any assistance most appreciated. |

Update your windows and video drivers. I assume you do not have another screensaver running. Set the BOINC windows screensaver back to defaults. Do you have any other power saving, sleep mode settings? Anything else that might be conflicting? Close all others programs as a test. You are using the latest BOINC version? So BOINC is still running just no screensaver? Thanks for the response. No power saving modes // no sleep modes // Have closed everything else w/o success // BOINC ver 7.2.42 // BOINC seems to be running just fine. When I "look" at the screen saver manually -- it looks perfect and will run forever if I let it. It just refuses to "come up" as my "normal" screensaver. It DOES come up for a brief instant and then drops out and the computer returns to regular operation. All other screen savers (the included ones in WIN7) work just fine --- I can set time (1,2,3,4,5 minutes whatever) and they come up right on schedule and go off as soon as I hit a key or move the mouse. I have always had no issue with SETI screensaver before while on Xp. This has only happened since I transitioned to WIN7. Quite sure this is a self inflicted wound. Again; thanks for the response |
