I've had (quite) a few problems with one of the PCs I use, namely, 7374714, but it has recently surpassed even itself! Firstly, the HD 6870 that was in it, decided to 'fail'; this was then fixed using the old HD 4870 it used to run....then my partner had the bright idea of installing my old factory o/c 4890 in X-Fire, as they like gaming. That card 'blew-up' (the 4890), due to poor 'manual handling'! Re-installs of BOINC and Lunatics and moving to Win 7 Pro 64 were carried out after a 5870 was stuck in the thing, as was a client merge and all ran well....as expected. Like the 6870 in my PC, some advice as to tweaking the app info was going to be needed. It still is needed, for both the 5870 in their PC and the 6870 installed in my PC. However, yet another problem with this PC has arisen.

In essence, BOINC now thinks that it is not attached to any project at all! It 'asked' for a project to add to it, when BOINC was started on the last two occasions. Obviously, I've not gone through all that, as it was working fine and it would probably destroy all perfectly good data. The BOINC Program Data folder appears to be intact and complete, with a setiathome.berkeley.edu sub-folder in the BOINC projects folder, but BOINC does not 'see' it. Would I be correct in thinking that, re-installing BOINC, then the Lunatics Apps with the same versions and then replacing the 'new' Program Data folder with the old one, would get me back to 'where I was' (working, that is)? Of course, any tips on tweaking the Lunatics ATI GPU apps for a 5870 and 6870 would also be greatly appreciated, bearing in mind that I don't want to push the cards....£1000 p.a. pay reductions, foster a tendency towards caution! lol

Do you see the file account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml in BOINC Data directory?
If not - copy it from the other machine.
Then start BOINC and it should see the SETI@home project is attached/added

Have you tried just reattaching, Boinc should just do a quick attach, and since your client_state.xml will still have the same host_cpid, you should get the same host id,
and either you'd get the same Wu's, or they would get resent.

No, Installing BOINC would make a new Data directory, but it wouldn't be attached to any projects, running the Lunatics installer would probably make a setiathome directory, and put apps in it, then swapping Data directories would put you back to where you started, ie a broken Data directory, and possibly permissions not set correctly.

What you can try is replacing the account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml in the BOINC Data directory with a serviceable copy, before you do anything else, then try starting BOINC.

I tried that, Claggy, but all that BOINC did, was download two WUs, show them being worked on but with no progress(!). Eventually, I did the fast and nasty. Re-install everything, 'merge' and left it to it's own devices....the old WUs are now downloading as required. Of course, in some respects I'm starting from scratch, but the thing is working again. Thanks for the suggestions - now to the 6870 and 5870 Lunatics GPU app 'tweaks'........
