After the Second World War, immigration to Sweden has increased considerably. During the 1950s and 60s, many immigrants from southern Europe came to Sweden to work. Growing groups of mainly Finns, Norwegians, Danes, Germans, Poles, Croats, Albanians, Serbs, Bosnians, Turks, Chilean, Greeks, Iraqis, Iranians, Kurds, Assyrians / Syrians, Lebanese and Somalis have immigrated to Sweden.

During the period 1941-2005, Sweden has received a total of 2,455,665 immigrants, but at the same time has 1,410,063 people moved from Sweden.
There is now a restaurant called Eskilstuna in Erbil Kurdistan Iraq.
