Set "no new tasks" then run down the GPU tasks to zero. Install the new card, but make sure you install the drivers from Nvidia not from Microsoft. If Windows does grab it's own drivers don't panic, just download the correct driver install package from Nvidia and run it as a CLEAN install, don't try to over-write the seriously deficient Windows driver...

In a bit more detail, yes you need to finish all work you presently have for the AMD card, as it cannot be done on the Nvidia card.

Do set the project to No New Tasks, so that BOINC doesn't continue to update the cache. BOINC Manager->(View->Advanced view->)Projects tab->Select Seti@Home->Click No New Tasks (the button changes to Allow new tasks).

When you've run down the cache for the GPU, make sure to upload all the work and report it. Next exit BOINC. (BOINC Manager->File->Exit, acknowledge on stopping to run science applications->OK.)

Then go to Control Panel->Programs->Programs and Features, find any mention of AMD or ATI in the list and start uninstalling them. Whenever you're asked to restart, wait with that until all of the AMD/ATI entries have been uninstalled.

Before restarting, navigate to the Nvidia website and get the 340.52 drivers in (that is a direct link to download them for 64bit Vista/Windows7/Windows8). Save them to a convenient place, or to the desktop.

When they're downloaded, go Start->Shut down.

Open your case, take out the AMD card and put in the Nvidia card.
Put your case back together and start her up again.

After logging in to Windows, find the Nvidia drivers, double click on the installer and install the drivers. You may want to reboot after having installed them to finalize things.

Next restart BOINC, Advanced view, Advanced, Event Log (or press CTRL+SHIFT+E). Check that BOINC has detected your new GPU correctly.

If it has done so, allow new work: Projects tab, Select Seti@Home, click Allow new tasks.
If there's a problem, please post about it here or in a new thread.
In that case, also post those BOINC start-up messages.
