Shades of Neville Chamberlain - Well they do say history often repeats itself :-)

"This has the added advantage that having played the part of a loyalist waiting with open-jawed admiration for the prime minister to return home with a piece of paper, their eventual disappointment will pack more heft."

Tories keeping powder dry

Edit: A very interesting report

Australia needs to buy a new map.

According to Glenn, they probably couldn't afford it! But if we clubbed together we could send them a copy of Captain Cooks maps. He seemed to know where he was.

Nah, I wouldn't bother as we have copies of those a plenty as well as copies by Dirk Hartog & Abel Tasman, not to mention the updated version by Bass and Flinders. ;-)

Cheers.

Abel Tasman

Ah the geezer that found the islands of Van Diemen's Land, now Tasmania.

That's the 1. ;-)

He was the earliest of them explorers, but he missed the mainland so his charting couldn't have been that good. :-D

Cheers.

I'm left wondering why leaders of any time fail the heed the words of great leaders of the past...

'Nothing would induce me to vote for giving women the franchise. I am not
going to be henpecked into a question of such importance,'

-Churchill on votes for women ~1906

Not all his words make for great advice in modern times.

True, but will the many words of modern leaders stand the test of time as many of his has?

The biggest stench emanating from Europe has finally reached the US...

FIFA officials corrupted football

The "Clean, Honest & Respectable" man who won't give up

...well done the US for issuing a "red card"

Any chance of issuing the EU one?

All countries affiliated to FIFA are culpable in all this. All have known
about this corruption and none have done anything to stop it. The whole
FIFA shebang wants disbanding as it is too corrupt to have any credence
or semblance of respectability left in it.

It is far from the first time that FIFA and its employees are accused of racketeering and corruption. Here are the scandals during Sepp Blatter's time as chairman.

1998: Alleged bribery when Blatter was elected.
2008: FIFA marketing company in scandal
2011: Top Fifa employees banned for lifetime.
2014: Russia World Cup creates a stir
2015: Fourteen people arrested.

Probably more when digging in the dirt...
Former chairman of UEFA Lennart Johansson is not surprised.

O dear...

Russia has a different approch:)

The costs for the World Cup in Russia in 2018 elapses. The planned budget of close to 11 billion Euros danger of bursting. The reason is that the import of building materials have become more expensive due to a decline in value of the Russian ruble.
Under a new bill now entrepreneurs are given the opportunity to hire Russian prisoners in their factories, reports AP. The prisoners will work on production of building materials for the construction of stadiums and infrastructure projects.

Wages for work, according to Alexander Khinstein, will be around 260 Euros a month ..

Fédération Internationale de Football Association, FIFA, is an International Federation so I wonder what EU has to do with it.
EU deals with mostly trade affairs and free movement of Labour force.

The former UEFA chairman Lennart Johansson has his opinion clear about the upcoming World Championships in Russia and Qatar.
- World Cup 2018 should go in England, and then a free ticket for the World Cup in 2022, says Johansson, 85, told Aftonbladet.

This dirt has been known about for a very long time. Curious how it hit the fans two days before a vote was due to be considered by the FIFA congress on banning a certain nation from future events.

Perhaps the dirt you're so desperately seeking on the EU, Sirius B, will hit the headlines if the EU were to ever propose some sort of an embargo on that nation too.

Suggest you read up on the EU accounts before making inflammatory statements. The EU accounts have not been signed off for how many years?

Would you care to tell us all why that is?

& what nation is that? That's twice you've mentioned that. How about naming that nation as I have no idea what you're talking about.

As for reading the daily mail, haven't read or purchased that paper for many a year. As stated to another poster, WHAT paper would YOU suggest I read?

Or would you prefer the Daily Tami?

It's not one nation.
Wikipedia updated today.
Read all about it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA#Corruption_and_legislative_interference

In 2013, FIFA had revenues of over 1.3 billion U.S. dollars, for a net profit of 72 million, and had cash reserves over 1.4 billion U.S. dollars

Not bad for a company registered as a charity.

Its truly sad.
Lets say they gave 10% of the revenue to charity...

How many companies in the world has a cash reserve larger then the revenue?
No wonder that Money disappears.
