I have taken a stab at trying to install Linux on one of older boxes. And then trying to get the "stock" seti client setup and running. Its just way over my head. But I don't want to spend that much money on window's OS's just to run my Seti calculations. Don't get me wrong. These boxes are not real barn burners... just not quite retired antiques... ;)

No they are NOT i386-sx's <grin> Although one of them will barely boot Linux Slackware...

You could of course, get a Linux that has BOINC available from repository, so it's built against the libraries in that Linux distribution and therefore more likely to work out of the box.

There is really no need to constantly trying to reinvent the wheel. BOINC has been here for quite some time already (since 2002) and is quite wide-spread. Lots of people try to port it to make it work on their operating systems.

Does that Distro have Seti already installed? I have another box that might become available shortly. It has run basic Seti before so should be able to do it again. Would like to do it with Linux but don't want to learn Linux now.
