I average around 10 years per wallet. They could last longer, but I have a wife and daughter who sometimes think I need a new one for Christmas or birthday or whatever. Now be honest, how old is your oldest pair of socks or underwear? |

I average around 10 years per wallet. They could last longer, but I have a wife and daughter who sometimes think I need a new one for Christmas or birthday or whatever. I tend to just stack my socks and underwear on top of whats in my drawer. So the same 7 pairs get used over and over. So after a year they get pretty beat up. I guess I should rotate from bottom to top.
Old James |

I would say about 10 years for a wallet, but I don't carry cash notes in it, just info and debit cards, membership cards etc. loose cash is in my pocket. I never carry much cash, get it out the hole in the wall as I need it. Yeah... Wallets are something akin to a good pair of boots. I'll wear a good pair of boots to death, and I have 3 more pairs of them that I bought. I think they'll last me until I pass away. So will the wallet. Mark mentioned his Social Security card. That is the oldest thing in my wallet, transferred from long since departed wallets. That SS card was done on a typewriter, but I found my dad's SS card while going through some old stuff at my mom's house, and his was engraved on metal. The most interesting thing in my wallet is a $20 Australian bill I was given as a tip. I'm not trading it in. It's kind of cool to me. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Is that an old paper 1 or a plastic 1 Gordon? Cheers. |

It's a plastic one. I'd never seen one before, and the guy who handed it to me told me to try to tear it, which of course I couldn't. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Back in the mid sixtys is when I got mine. It came with two cards, I still have the other one in the safe still attached to the form. I liked my old combat boots. I wore them all 8 years I was in the AF. The fit like a glove. They finally rotted off of my feet after 10 years.I was sad to see them go:)
Old James |

I gave myself a new wallet for Christmas last year. The old one was about 8 years old and falling apart. Moved most of my credit and membership cards into a credit card holder I inherited from my Dad. That one rides in a front pocket. I do NOT carry my Social Security Card unless I know I'm going to need it. Most interesting thing in my wallet? Probably my "Blue Nose" card, earned on the occassion of the USS James Monroe crossing the Arctic Circle and entering the Realm of the Northern Oceans. By the time the entrance exam and initiation was over, a lot more than just my nose was blue.... Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

As for carrying the SS card, I guess you're smart not to, but it's just old habits die hard, and I like it with me. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

My wallet is only a few months old, but some of the contents are "quite old" -like the UK 10/- note (yes, ten shillings...) which was given to me when I went up to the "big boys' school" at the age of eleven. I used to do that, but it took Me a good while to find My SS card, as the card was misplaced, so the card, old as it is, stays in My wallet and the edges are fuzzy, but then the card is about 35yrs old and replacing the card costs money now. Mine is pretty old. I have a vague memory of giving it to my grandfather for Christmas when I was little. I got it back after he died. At that time, my nylon and velcro one was about worn out and I just couldn't convince myself to like the new one I had sitting here. It's still sitting here, still unused. The one I'm using has a lot of wear, especially to the cloth interior card pockets, but I'm being careful with those. [edit] I do not carry my SS card any more. I'm not even sure where it is. (I have an idea, though.) Did I ever tell you about the wallet I left on the train as kid? In 1976, my grandmother took me on vacation to a dude ranch, where I won a wallet in a talent show or something. Later that year, my father took me to the Olympics in Montreal. We took the train. Amtrak (brand new Amfleet tubes) to Detroit and probably CN from Windsor to Montreal. He even sprung for a sleeper. I had the upper and put my wallet, with both US and Canadian money in it, in this pouch on the wall at the head of my bed. And forgot it. No cash for me for the rest of the trip. It was only about $7 each country, but to a 9-year-old, that was a lot. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

I don't keep all my ATM and Credit Cards in my wallet, for the same reason.... Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

Doing a quick count back. My current wallet is ~20 years old, It's predecessor also lasted ~20 years and the one before that ~10 (I lost that one). :) T.A. |

But if ever your wallet is lost or stolen..... When I used to go to a bar that was walking distance from me, I'd leave the wallet at home, and just take my ID and a $20 bill with me. Kept me safe. ;~} The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Mine is falling apart but with my disability, wallet specs have to be specific. Hard to find one that works |
