Maybe you could get a cheap used computer to use as a 'daily driver' and a backup to stay online and pay bills and such with. Not a cruncher. Just a backup computer.
There were some links given here and there about free or low cost recycled computers over the last month or so.
Perhaps that would be a good solution for you to get by and give you some breathing room for now.

Well, then I would throttle down what you have as much as possible to limp it along until then (you may have already), and reconsider the thought after August 1st. You may be able to find a serviceable boxen cheap to use as I have suggested, and might not be a bad idea to have as a backup to your 'hobby' computers.

Well, therein is the crux of the matter, Vic.
You ask for help/advice and you throw it away.

You post about being worried about being able to get online and pay your bills. I make a perfectly honest suggestion that a wise man might heed, and the next thing you say is that your next purchases are going to be a case and a bracket. Those aren't going to get you online if what you have now goes down.

You obviously have your priorities, Vic. And I am not going to put you down for that.
Just don't continue to show angst toward others that don't agree with your chosen path.

Except for David I've gotten a know it all and some person who assumes negative things about My finances, I may be poor, but I am responsible, I've never missed a bill in My life, nor been late on the rent, ever, I have a spotless credit record.

In July I have a prior obligation of $250 to pay off, plus I have a minimum due on the credit card, the full amount will be paid in August so that My credit line will be restored, then I can buy the case, until then I have no extra cash.

From what I have been reading Vic, I cannot see where insults are being sent your way. What I can see are sensible replies. I've found on this project that most if not all are genuinely helpful.

Worked constantly all my life & never in debt. Had to give up work to take care of a disabled partner only to find eighteen months after doing so, we get screwed by bureaucrats which continued for several years which led to ending up homeless with the loss of practically everything worked for over those years.

I could not do anything about it so my attitude was "Cest La Vie" & get on with living, It wasn't easy but I succeeded only to get told some devastating news.

Fully understand the issue of paperless bills & other paperless issues as I had those very same issues. I needed that pc to maintain not only bill payments but proof for the various legal issues we went through so throughout all that time, I ensured that no crunching or any other issues cropped up to safeguard that pc as much as I could.

You need to prioritise your commitments Vic & to do that, the project for now has to take a backseat.

What I can see from the last few posts is that you're letting your situation & emotions get the better of you. TBH, take a break from the keyboard & relax, you'll be surprised by just how much that works.

Angela made a very important observation earlier Vic, and that was that being able to post on the Seti boards should be the more important factor to you. The level of Seti crunching that you did/could/want to achieve comes second. I have a machine with an ATI 5850 card in it off line for 3 weeks at a remote location, and at the moment I can't be bothered to go and fix it, it isn't that important. OK my RAC has dropped from 25K to less than 20K, so what? it isn't the end of the world, I can still post.

I don't care what My rac is, it doesn't rule Me. Maybe I should leave, it seems I am encountering a decent amount of prejudice here, as no one here knows what they are talking about when the subject is Me and My bills. I'm almost insulted in fact.

And I agree with Rob. Build what you can afford, Not E-bay rejects That you have no idea how they might have been abused or neglected.

Look James don't get to flaming Me, I don't worry about My bills, I just pay for them, that's how I got a Capitol One Credit Card in My wallet, a Platinum one in fact. Plus I suffer from anxiety. At least half My bills are all online, they're paperless bills, so without a working PC, it's more difficult to pay for them.

Why not re-use one of your existing cases, that will save you a couple of hundred dollars. You are now entering your interminable, expensive, annual ritual of frying your PC and then finding you can't afford the required bits without cutting back on vitals like paying bills.
This time around instead of trying to buy the oldest, cheapest bits you can, then expecting them to work as well as they did when new, and as well as a high-end PC built with top class new components why not aim for a solid middle of the road PC that will cost about the same, but will run for several years before needing anything major replaced - If you want an example of what I mean take a look at my PCs, the oldest of which has a GTX460 and a quad-core AMD, both of which were bought shortly after they came to the market, and have been running 24/7 ever since, and the only things that have failed have been hard disks.

That would be nice, but the replacement motherboard is an XL-ATX type and is larger than My current cases capabilities, all I need is a case and a bracket, the bracket I'm buying on July 1st, the case on August 1st, what I have now should hold out for a month and a half now, on Thursday I'm going to put as much of the fans and pumps on the psu and take as much off the motherboard itself as I can, I need to find a splitter or two on Thursday to do this with.

I've had this motherboard for at least the last 4 years Rob, it was an open box motherboard from Newegg.

The X79 cpu and motherboard are not new, I bought both used, the cpu is a 3820 that cost roughly $176.00(bought on 4/24/2014 from a guy in France), if it were new it would be a 4820K, the motherboard is an EVGA x79 Classified if it were new that cost Me $185.00(this was before the improved 2.03 Bios came out, bought motherboard around 9/21/2013), it would be an X79 Dark.

I didn't say I was cutting back on bills or food or anything beyond Seti wu's Rob, you really have no idea what is going on here, so please don't accuse Me of such.

This motherboard was damaged several years ago by an Antec made psu interface cable that controlled how an Antec HTPC case works that was between the motherboard and a 1050w enermax psu and has been on a slow slide to failure ever since. This cable failed cause there was not enough voltage for the pci-e slots and the rest of the motherboard, that I later remedied, but that didn't stop the motherboard from slowly dying.

I'm not about to scrap the X79 motherboard and cpu for an AMD type, that would be akin to changing horses in mid-stream and that is a very bad idea.

The cpu is at 2.66GHz which for an i5 750 cpu is the stock speed.
