I never asked for a PC.

I am not having any sort of financial problems at all with My bills or My food...

I just can not get the parts to fix a PC problem at this moment in time, since the money only goes so far per month.

The credit card I mentioned is a secured card, meaning money has to deposited into the card to enlarge the credit line, that is how a secured card works.

So to fix this problem it will require time, since enough money to fix the problem is lacking at this moment.

That is ALL, I am having a problem with.


I do not need people jumping to conclusions or down My throat, though some do so anyway, as their minds are already made up.

If a person refuses help, then perhaps it is best to stop offering.

If this thread upsets you so much the I would suggest not reading it any more.

Vic may have may reasons for not accepting the PC so once the offer is turned down, as generous as it was then the subject can be dropped.

I see no reason to continue to flog the subject.

For a lot less aggro, I've seen threads locked, hidden or moved to politics so based on those facts, this thread should not be in the café as you have stated yet the OP continues to request help or state that he has time restraints & not knowing what to do which in my book is a plea for help.

However, if in fact this thread is just a facebook type journal then the OP needs to cut out the implied pleas for help as we can see that it only angers him & we end up accused of flaming.

Maybe you could get a cheap used computer to use as a 'daily driver' and a backup to stay online and pay bills and such with. Not a cruncher. Just a backup computer.
There were some links given here and there about free or low cost recycled computers over the last month or so.
Perhaps that would be a good solution for you to get by and give you some breathing room for now.

Now unless I was taught gibberish at school, I as well as others saw that for what it was.

Along comes a fellow community member who himself experienced some personal issues & offers a back up machine to do this...

I was worried about being able to pay the paperless bills online, not My ability to pay, on the 1st I'm usually quite capable of doing so, I'm just worried I won't be able to get online to do so.

Now as can be seen from the thread, I'm not the only one to gape in amazement at this thread...

As for Vic's journey that is understood. I believe what caught me out & others as can be seen from the various posts is his possible inability to pay his bills online (that was also understood).

Pretty much everyone on this forum are active members of the project & I.T competent enough not to have all their eggs in one basket. However, seeing the refusal of a genuine & thoughtful offer of a backup machine to prevent such a situation from occurring in the future is nothing but insulting.

You have shown over the past year or more that you're on a tight budget. Most logical thinking people cannot understand why the waste of funds on un-necessary computer equipment.

A free system to be powered on & used ONLY for online activity when you're own is down will not COST YOU ANYTHING extra.

And yet you continue to also post about your plans to build a couple more computers.

Would it not be wise to accept an absolutely free offer of a serviceable enough computer to allow you to get online and pay bills until you are able to work out your future plans of building others? There is nothing wrong with your future plans.

You talk about power costs. I suggested that it not be used for Seti at all, you would not even need to power it up unless your apparent nightmare comes true, and then you would have a backup ready to go.
I also stated that I understood that you have the ability to pay your bills.
You said that your anxiety was worrying about having a computer able to do it with.

An older pc makes more heat too, just on idle during the day, this pc keeps the room at 80F, even with the swamp cooler on high cool with the current water pump, I never said I'd use an older system for Seti, I tried that years ago, it wasn't worth the effort for Me. this PC is set at stock speed all around, which is 2.66GHz.

For crying out loud VIC, Get it through that thick skull of yours that you only USE THE FREAKING FREE COMPUTER IF THE ONE YOU HAS DIES. You dont crunch with it, You dont leave it on 24/7,Its only for a freaking emergency!!!!!!!!!!!.

HOW much power does an unplugged EMERGENCY computer take?????? Please slap your self upside the damn hard head you have.

Personally I would have thought that paying off a credit card, then straight away maxing it out again just to fund a hobby was rather foolhardy and shortsighted to say the least. What happens if his car breaks down and he has no emergency funds to fall back on? How then does he get food?

But as Vic says, he has made up his mind, and is not to be budged. He has said before that he doesn't accept advice gladly, he is his own man, and prefers to do it his way. OK fine, he has to be allowed to get on with it. I think Vic has had probably enough advice here for now, and I would suggest that it may be best to close this thread, before it gets too personal.
