BOINC's design is that if your host was sent the work, reported it back within deadline, and it was judged valid, then the host gets credit for the work.

BOINC's implementation obviously has not quite matched the design under all circumstances.

Jord, I'm not 100% convinced that this is a deliberate staff-initiated cleanup process

It's very coincidental then that I sent an email asking to look into these things ref. Seti Enhanced and old APs, and 8 hours after my request it is being re-enabled. Asked Mon, Jun 9, 2014 at 12:31 PM CEST, first post about it 9 Jun 2014, 20:09:46 UTC. Even you can't calculate the odds on that one. :)

Well, Looks like those that did manage to get downloaded(15 of 81) and run aren't going to be validated (6 of the 15 so far) since they all errored out afterwards. The rest are waiting validation but I'm not holding my breath. Here's just an example of what I'm seeing

Oh well.

Happy Crunching...

1 good thing about this is that I've finally been able to delete a rig that hasn't existed for 18 months that 1 MB V6 was stopping that from happening.

Cheers.

I understand that they are cleaning out the database however if we are receiving download failed in our message logs is this actually helping because clear the database out or is it just creating extra server load for no need until there is a successful download? That is great to hear Winggo I know what it's like when at one thing is stopping you from removing something. I find it very satisfying when you are able to remove/correct issue because something has fallen into place

One thing to bear in mind folks is if you only have Enhanced tasks selected it will drive your daily quota down to 1 task per day as I have just had happen. This will increase over time again as we all know. I currently have 18 V7 tasks on board

Hi

I don´t know if could be related to the same error but at least one of my hosts (not check the others, the one who have RAC>100K) starts to show:

10/06/2014 19:03:14 | SETI@home | This computer has finished a daily quota of 1 tasks

Something totaly wierd, since this hosts crunch a lot of WU per day with no error for months. I just check and the task shows 66 error on MB WU because a DL problem, have no ideia why all happening after todays outage.

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=7227968

Any clues? And please forgive if this is the wrong thread.

<edit> Apparently the same is happening in other hosts.

Hey Juan,

Check and see if they are the Seti@home Enhanced Multibeams. That seems to be all the one causing all the errors for me. 101 so far across all 4 of my computers. Terrible that it's caused seti to stop sending you any work units. I was worried that it might do that as well to mine but so far it hasn't. Someone suggested unchecking the Seti@home enhanced in the preferences on your account page to prevent them from downloading. Oh yeah, I forgot that I did change my setting back to Astropulses only after the weekly update, so that probably saved me from having that happen as well.

Hi Zalster

My preferences are:

Run only the selected applications SETI@home Enhanced: no
SETI@home v7: no
AstroPulse v6: yes
If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? no

So theoricaly no one of my hosts DL SETI@home Enhanced anyway.

I will run out of new WU very soon, my 100 WU cache last for few hours only.

My old question: Why they mess with something that runs fine for months? :(

Well, after reading all the postings. It looks like they were trying to clean out any stuck or uncompleted work units from the Seti@home Enhance versions, along with some APs to get them off peoples accounts and off the result page. But it sounds like they unintentionally caused the server to started downloading all those old Work units to the users. So by trying to clean the stuck ones they caused them to be dumped onto all the users. I don't know how large the data base was for the stuck or incompleted is but hopefully it won't last longer than a few days. It's just one of those things, it's all good. Hopefully will return to normal once they are all done.

Not only did I get an enhanced WU this morning (failed download),
but boinc was nice enough to install the software to process it.
Now I need a cleanup for the cleanup.

fk,

Well that's a new one on me. If it happen to you then I wonder if that is what happen with Juan. Could very well be that others had that happen to them as well. Hmm.. Guess we will have to wait and see if others post that it happen to them. Sorry to hear that. Hope you can get it clean up without too much difficulty.

To make the mess a little bigger, i don´t even crunch on the CPU...

With the limit of 1 WU my crunchers will be out of work for a long time and my RAC will drop like a rock.

I hate when they do those changes without proper testings.

Ok time for some beers. Thanks for the help.

I have a machine I have been wanting to clear as well. However I think it may take a while for it to get clear yet.

Well between all the Enhanced download errors you have and all the MB work that you have recently aborted it's not surprising that your rigs are currently short of work. :-(

Cheers.
