OK, I got confirmation that it is my turn. (it would have been nice if that was posted in this thread as well). Here is a photo I got from the web. What is it? BOINC WIKI |

I got a PM that I believe means it is my turn. I am confirming this at the moment. I have a picture in mind, but will have to find it among the pictures I took on vacation. BOINC WIKI |

It's amazing how much time and work a knowledgeable person can save a telco repair man, if you can convince them to let you. I am an IT person and have been involved with telco for years but, some will just not listen. Well, I can understand their reluctance to believe that the 'man on the street' knows much. I have myself dealt with many folks that think they know a lot, but don't. And they will spend hours of your time trying to convince you that they know something. But, it does get frustrating when one DOES know what they are talking about to get a professional to take the time to listen. I do sympathize. Tradesmen have a tough time once in a while determining who knows, as I said, s**t from shinola. And can spend hours on a bum steer otherwize. As in 'Yeah, it's grounded'......to a plastic water pipe. Ya know what I mean Dave? "Learn from yesterday. Live for today. Hope for tomorrow." Albert Einstein "With cats." kittyman

You got it down Mark. Aw heck, I have not let a technician on the premises for years. If there is trouble, I just check it out on my end, and tell the guy...... Look, you get me a good clean line to MY block, and I'll take it from there. I had only one bad attitude tech many years ago. Noise on the line. He tested at the demarcation block on the outside of my home. Noisy. He said...I'll have to get inside and test your equipment. I said, not my equipment fix yours first. He snarled at me as if I didn't know s**t from shinola. I took the line going from the block into my basement and ripped it off the block. Said...OK, buddy, test it now. He did, and it was noisy as all hell. He looked at me with his eyes narrowed to slits and said smartass.....now what are you gonna do, wiseguy?? It got traced to a junction box blocks away that had water dripping into it. He came by later in the afternoon to retest and apologize. I gave him a thumbs up and he gave me a smile and handshake. And then I pulled out my punchdown tool and put my line back on the block....LOL. He was all grins at that point. "Learn from yesterday. Live for today. Hope for tomorrow." You got it down Mark. A Pocket Probe Pick, eh? Now I know how they do that. There's a big block of telephone wiring like that in the basement of where I work, plus a big cabinet on the end of my street, they're always poking around in. The mind is a weird and mysterious place

Looks like John has it. I know what a 66 block is. And I still have a punch down tool for them. Ya gotta spin it around the right way, because one side cuts the wire off...LOL. Or you spin the blade around and it just punches down for feed throughs. "Learn from yesterday. Live for today. Hope for tomorrow." Albert Einstein "With cats." kittyman

I feel like it has something to do with a telephone line interface box(pushing/pulling the connections), but I don't know what it's called. The mind is a weird and mysterious place

Looks like John has it. It is called a Probe Pick Spudger: "The PROBE-PIC is an excellent multi-purpose tool for positioning, tracing, separating, and removing cut pieces of insulation and wire. It can also be used to remove bridging clips and wire from S66â„¢ quick clips." It is used by the phone person that works with what are called 66 blocks. If anyone wants to see how it is usually used: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfZ4Nmft1rA PM sent Dave |

I have used something similar for undoing wire connections. Depending on the connection, it can be used to pull or poke. (I used discarded dental picks for the purpose). BOINC WIKI |

You said Donald was on the right track. So it's something to do with electricity? It looks vaguely familiar to me too, like maybe my father had one. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

No not automotive, fuse puller or tester. Dave |

Well, I'm trying to narrow it down. Does it have any use in car mechanics? Not a fuse puller/tester of some sort? The mind is a weird and mysterious place
