Congrats John :-) He hasn't explained the application for this tool. You wouldn't use this on your automobile and he still hasn't figured out the class of spring. This is a special purpose tool which like many tools does one job. What is it? |

If somebody doesn't figure this out by about 2PM pacific time, I will post a round of clues. |

Bit early but Photobucket has been giving me fits so I got an early start. While this tool is used by professionals, many more people carry one while pursuing a leisure activity. In case it helps, the following picture is what the factory provided tool looks like minus the rust. |

New tool, or the old one?? |

New tool, or the old one?? As I said the first tool was the new-improved version of the factory tool. The second one is the factory tool that I didn't post at first because I wanted to make it a bit harder. BIG MISTAKE. Both tools do the same job, just a bit different in design. I carry the factory version because it fits in a smaller space but you almost need 3 hands to use it. I am giving two hints. What the factory tool looks like and I narrowed down where it would be used a bit. This turned out to be a good deal harder than I thought. |

Tool for Perazzi flat springs. We have a winner, PM sent. The tool is used for replacing Perazzi shotgun hammer leaf springs. A leaf spring is preferred over a coil spring because it has a far faster lock time. The down side of a leaf spring is they may last as little as 2 or 3 years before they snap, often in the middle of competition. With 5 minutes to make repairs, most people who have leaf springs carry parts and tools for spot repairs. Those who don't most of the time borrow parts/tool from somebody else. The process to remove the old spring involves compressing the spring, moving the bail out of the way, then removing the spring by hand. To replace the spring, you place the new spring in position, compress it and move the bail over the end of the spring. The image shows the tool ready to compress the spring. |
