Pumpkin provides fiber and is often recommended after surgery or if a dog is experiencing trouble with anal gland issues.

@Grant - never tried giving my dogs pumpkin. Vet suggested giving them carrots once. They were both utterly horrified by them.

My Nephew had a dog named Thelma who would eat cooked french fries, She was raised by 3 people from a puppy, My Nephew(in between driving a semi truck on the interstate highway, He was mostly on the road, except for the weekends), My Brother and Myself.

Never heard of pumpkin being an issue before but you learn something new every day.

I was told by the vet to give pumpin and few other veg's to my dog and he has been just fine.

We took Abby (9 yr old Ruby King Charles Cavalier Spaniel) to Cornell University today for her annual Ultrasound. We were concerned over her increasing cough. They did a Renal Panel, 2 Radiographs, an ECG and the Ultrasound. We are thrilled to say that while they saw "slight progression" of the disease, she is not currently in Congestive Heart Failure. No medication changes were made and they were really pleased with how she looked. We are very much relieved.

She said her BP was up a bit but attributed it to the stress of being at the Animal Hospital.

She was also cleared for a full Anaesthetic-involved Dental in the near future.

Well as expected she has a Grade 3 Yeast Infection. She has to have her butt/belly washed 3x a week with special shampoo

Hope it clears up quickly for her, and for you too :) What's she like being bathed? Does she sprout all her sharp bits at once and impale you with them or just yowl and howl in mournful horror at the indignity you're putting her through?

Rasputin seems to be getting a little better - and is a little less reluctant about eating which is a good sign I think...

Abby's off to the vet tmrw (Saturday). Her butt is raw and we think she's been obsessively licking herself again. In the past this has indicated an infection of some sort but we'll see.

Awwww :( It's so frustrating when they do that to themselves. Hope it's quickly resolved for her Blurf.

A vet once told Me this, 'if a cat doesn't want to eat some food that the cat is not familiar with, make sure that cat food is the only food the cat has access to, the cats hunger will overcome any resistance, your cat will eat it', you may have to stir the food if the food is canned from time to time and keep other cats from eating His/Her food, but that is something that needs to be done, so the cat will get better.

Thanks Blurf and Julie :) he's a little perkier today - actually made it over to the waterbowl for a lap at it - probably just fed up with me syringing it into him to be honest, but it's progress :)

Vet is mystified but suspects poisoning :( Waiting for results of blood tests and trying to prevent him going into renal failure. Not sure if they'll keep him in when I take him back there in a couple of hours... I hope not... every time I've had to leave a sick animal friend with them overnight, I've picked up a dead one the next day :( When I look after them through the night, at least they don't die alone in a cage :/

Thanks guys :) They've let me bring me home !!!YAY!!! and now it's a matter of seeing how he gets on over the weekend. They're happy with his hydration levels and will reassess him tomorrow afternoon. Just tried him with some of the REALLY expensive food they suggested :/ but he turned his nose right up so... might have to get crafty and dirty his face with it... then try and stop the other cats from washing it off for him :)
