Well Dog is getting so old he can't jump stairs so we put in a ramp so he can hit the yard and do his thing. At 15 I also think he can't see so good anymore. Cheers everybody Life is short so don't sip Beer speaks, people mumble |

Had to have Baby put to sleep this morning. Lately he'd been almost constantly bugging me to feed him, but yesterday he wasn't eating much and became incontinent. When I got home, he came to greet me, but less enthusiastically than normal. He did eat a bit, but just a bit. Throughout the night, I heard him crawling out of one of his hidey-holes and back in again, but he never came to bug me for food and most of what I gave him remained uneaten this morning. He barely protested when I placed him in a carrier, but did give me a few weak meows when I picked it up to take him out to the car. There was not a lot of affection between us. To him, I was a source of food and occasional body heat. Therefore, to me he was little more than an expense and an anchor to home. The irony of that is that, because of the holiday, it cost an extra $131 for the emergency visit on top of the regular charge. The few days' worth of food I have left and the new bag of litter I just bought but didn't open will go to the local shelter, I think. He lived at least 15 years, so it was a full life. I hope he found my mother at the Rainbow Bridge; I don't expect him to be waiting for me. (The one I expect is Nero.) Sorry to hear of Baby's passing, David. Perhaps some day, but for now I plan to enjoy the freedom of not having anyone or anything depending on me. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

Sorry to hear of Baby's passing, David. Sorry to here that. We have now a young dog called Tosca. I remember my grandmother who also had a dog named Tosca. That was my first encounter to animals at perhaps 3 years old. She was sniffing my face when I was sitting on a pot making my needs:) Tosca the elder was sitting in my grandmothers lap when the vet put her to sleep. I was not there. |

At my age I don't think I would take on another one, not that I don't like them but what would happen if I kick off and leave it alone. :( Cheers everybody Life is short so don't sip Beer speaks, people mumble |

I was beside both Tigger and Squirrel when they were assisted to the Rainbow Bridge. As well as several of Lori's kitties who had to travel on. It is a very hard thing to do, but I am sure it gives them some comfort as they leave our side on this earth. But rest assured, none of them has ever left our hearts. And Lori and myself have an understanding with each other that if anything happens to either of us, the other will be certain that our kitty companions shall be well taken care of and continued to be loved in our absence. I was beside both Tigger and Squirrel when they were assisted to the Rainbow Bridge. Life is sad sometimes. When I was a kid I was spending three summer in a farm here. We used to play with the cows, calfes, one horse called Mary, the dog and cats, and hens. One year a calf was born when we where there. Next year a lorry came... A cow named Diana was my favorite. We used to crawl under her belly despite we where forbidden to do that. She didn't mind:) One evening we brought the cows to the pasture after milking as always. But I probably pushed Diana to hard in a slope with lots of stones. She fell into the ditch and broke her hip. The farmer had to put her to sleep... |

At my age I don't think I would take on another one, not that I don't like them but what would happen if I kick off and leave it alone. :( That's another consideration. I went to the shelter today to donate my leftover food and litter. I saw a couple of cats munching on their dinner, but I didn't go beyond the front desk. Nero loved me enough that I probably could have taken him on road trips with me without worrying that he would run away. He was the only one that died naturally. I had him at the vet and was about to say to do it, and through his suffering he got up and climbed back into the carrier. I decided there was still some spirit there and he wanted to go home, so I took him home. I put him on a towel on the floor. The next morning, he was in a different place, cold. Yesterday, I got rid of one litter box and all the plates I fed him on, disassembled the other (automatic) box and cleaned its simpler parts (the mechanism may be impossible to get satisfactorily clean), but somehow I forgot to dump out his water bowl. It's still sitting there on the floor behind me. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |
