Good to hear there's been some progress Blurf. :) Does she have to wear one of those big collar things? Nope...they're both good |

Just got back from a vet appt. 1) Gypsy Rose is improved. Both glands had to be expressed again. Infection is gone. One was definitely not as thick but not quite where it needs to be. Other side-material is still horribly thick and nasty-is still not improving. Giving it a few more days-if improvement isn't seen they will need to take further steps which will be discussed then. 2) Abby gave a urine sample-will get a call Monday w/ the results. Slow but steady steps |

Poor Gypsy Rose :( Hope she's better soon. Sort of reminds me of my daughter's guinea pigs. They needed their anal sacks regularly "expressed" too - eeuwww grue grue!! probably nowhere near as bad though. :) My brother had some but I never knew that Annie he might have not too. Cheers everybody Life is short so don't sip Beer speaks, people mumble |

I'll apologize for the content of this specific pup-related issue ahead of time. On Poodles you need to do it about every hair cut 6-8 weeks without fail. A good groomer will do it for you. |

Geez Blurf. That is the worst thing in dogs and cats. Folks, if you've never done it, be joyful. If the material becomes hardened, then manual extraction is necessary, and if it's really impacted, woe to pet and guardian. It's off to the vet. For kitties, sometimes you'll get a smell, and that means you'll need to take a warm, damp cloth and just press lightly for a few second (before the squirming and complaining begins). That always kept my cats, Marz and Sagan from getting impacted. Believe me, you'll know when it's time in cats. Kitty goes off your lap very quickly, and since they're smart, they learn that you running a cloth in the sink and approaching them means "THE BAD THING IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN, SO RUN AND HIDE." So sorry Gypsy Rose is going through this. I don't know anything about it in dogs, but I can guess. You're so right, Blurf; it is FOUL. CC |

I'll apologize for the content of this specific pup-related issue ahead of time. Our current challenge with our rescued Cavalier King Charles Spaniel....infected Anal Glands. Possibly one of the most disgusting things I have experienced in my life. The material that came out of Gypsy Rose was just atrocious. Can't even imagine how painful it is. She's been on antibiotics and is responding very well. We have to take her into the vets weekly for a month to have her glands expressed (it means squeezing to empty them) as Suz and I just can't do it ourselves. |

Hey Wiggo, Ah kin spil interting, too. So glad for context and the human brain. She does like watching the sheep in the vacant block across the back laneway here (with the occasional bark at them), but I do have this 2 metre (6'6") wire mesh fence and gates with concrete mow strips under them to keep her in the yard (atm she's having fun doing 40 metre dashes up and down the yard) and she's very well behaved on her lead when we are out and about for a walk. Sorry to hear about yours. Cheers. |

Recently I bought some Woolite carpet cleaner(I took My glasses this time) that said the product was made for pets, in a few days I'll use the spray and see how it works. I found one that worked pretty good on white carpet, Cholrox Oxi Magic, but I haven't been able to find hide nor hair of that locally anymore. One good thing about white carpet, in low light conditions a black cat stands out on the carpet. My Amazon Wishlist The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Thanks Wiggo. That's an interting mix. And I'm assuming she's very smart. She's showing a great deal of that intelligence, but if you want to look up either of the "heelers" then this is the link that you need, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Cattle_Dog. Mine is of the sheep dog variety (well on her mum's side anyway). Cheers. |

Wiggo, she's a real cutie-pie! Australian cattle dog/blue healer? Her mother is a Border Collie cross Kelpie while her dad is a German Shepherd. Her father was the reason I have her as the farmer was going to have the litter put down due to him not wanting that breed as part of a working dog. Cheers. |
