After 4.5mths dog has finally outgrown her puppy collar so she got an upgrade for her 7mth anniversary, a nice new red,black & white racing stripe job to suit her racing around at top speed nature.

Vic. have you thought about PUR or Brita filters? They can remove many of the minerals, and are not too expensive. I think PUR is the better of the two, but I am not certain.

We have very good water, but are down to two cats now. They throw up very seldom, but the older ones threw up quite often when they were alive.

Our cats won't drink tap water in a bowl, but will happily slurp up rainwater from puddles outside!

Mine prefer that too. Yet with the drought here, they will have to rely on tap water too.

Vic It may not be the water. Ziggy tosses his cookies on a regular basis. Hairballs and sometimes he just eats to fast.

My last car didn't throw up until I moved out here from Hesperia CA in 2004, the cat that I had before Her who only lived in Hesperia, never threw up, the only thing that hasn't changed is the water out here, all the food I've ever given has not changed this, no matter the type or brand. This raw food, not hairballs that I'm talking about, hairballs can be cleaned up since they are dry by comparison.

Vic, have you tried boiling the water and letting cool down before giving it to Grace. Mind knowing cats she will probably turn her nose up at it.

Used to have a cat, Moggy, and she would never drink out of her water bowl, but every time I let out she would go and drink out of the ground level bird bath even though it had just been topped up from the same tap as her bowl.

What you suggest is not going to help according to the EPA, as there is no bacteria in the water, just excess minerals, which I can't do a thing about short of moving, it would just make boiled water, which would still be very hard, about 11.

This morning Grace threw up again on the front room carpet, 3 times, I'm convinced it's something in the water that makes a cat do this here, before moving here I'd never had this problem with any cat. More Oxi Clean will need to be bought and paper towels. There is iron and calcium carbonate in the water.

When I was a kid our well water was nothing to talk about at all, Iron, sulfur, lime. we played hell just keeping the lines open. we got city water in 1955. Oh so much better.

The park here is on well water drawn from two wells, there is piped city water 12 miles away, piping it in is prohibitive, unless one's a multi-millionaire, since I just rent, there is nothing I can do on this.

Sorry to hear that Vic :( Have you tried her with bottled water? Look for a brand with the lowest trace elements you can find. I had to make up a lot of kitten formula milk with bottled water when a pregnant stray I took in produced fifteen kittens and couldn't feed them all herself... was fun but exhausting :) I'll try find the one I used and post the trace elements here later as a guide.

That I can't afford, I get $877.40 a month, My only option is moving, in 4 years that is and that requires getting My credit score back from the dead and a mortgage, as rent elsewhere is too expensive for Me or I'd have to put Grace in a Shelter, if I rented somewhere else, since Rent and Pets don't often go together...
