Catalyst 14.4 Displays won't wake
About 1,340,000 results (0.58 seconds)...

Crap...

This is misleading ;)

Like this one:
cucumber leads to death
https://www.google.com/#q=cucumber+leads+to+death

About 17,400,000 results (0.31 seconds)

Not good ...
Don't even think about eating cucumbers ever ;)
Lethal outcome 100%
(all people in the representative sample that consumed cucumbers in the period 1822-1855 are all dead)

"cucumber leads to death" = 1 result (0.17 seconds)
https://www.google.com/#q=%22cucumber+leads+to+death%22

No results found for "Catalyst 14.4 Displays won't wake":
https://www.google.com/#q=%22Catalyst+14.4+Displays+won't+wake%22

This gives better filtered results (About 1,680 results):

I'm not noticing any speed difference on my Windows 8.1 machine running AstroPulses, however.... I'm now having the Displays refusing to wake up. It's happened twice now since changing to 14.4 whereas it never did that with 13.12. The only thing I can do is hold the Power button down to shut it down. Not Good.

My notebook, with a HD6370M, starting having this issue with Cat 13.9 & 13.12. It stopped after Cat 14.4. However I had to pop out the battery & pull the charger to get it to actually shut off when this happened. Which was every time the monitor went to sleep.

I'm hoping it was just something associated with the nVidia driver interacting with the new AMD driver. I've always had trouble with the nVidia driver in Windows 8. It even gave me the Black 'Flashing' screens when I uninstalled it for the last time. Same as the other times, as soon as the Installer deleted the driver the screens went Black and I had to Force Quit the machine. Tapping the Power button Does Not Work in these cases. I removed the NV8800, inserted the AMD7750, booted, and installed 14.4 again. So far all is well, except this DDR3 7750 is about twice as slow as the GDDR5 7750. If I would have known it was so slow, I'd bought another 6850...oh well. At least it's cool and doesn't suck much electricity :-)

Maybe the issues exists with different GPU's in different Cat versions.

It's always been that way.

Just as some people, such as myself, have always had trouble with the nVidia driver in Windows 8. It's been over a year now, same problem with Windows 8.0, 2 different Windows 8.1 installs, and 2 different nVidia cards. The thread is still going, I have a post in that thread somewhere, Monitor display blank screen issue after driver update
It should be 'Monitors display blank screens issue after driver removal'. It doesn't have a chance to install the new driver as driver removal crashes the Windows 8 system. The person that Created 'Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU)', on that same board, had the same Problem. That's partly why he created Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU).
Nods head...

Now what? I decided to give 14.4 a try on my Vista system. Unfortunately...I can't seem to find a download for VISTA??? WTH? Vista downloads Stopped with 13.12, 14.4 is listed for Windows 7, 8 & 8.1.
I even checked the Beta downloads;
Compatible Operating Systems
The AMD Catalyst 14.4 Release Candidate Driver for Windows is designed to support the following Microsoft Windows platforms:

        Windows 8.1 (32 & 64-bit version)
        Windows 8 (32 & 64-bit version)
        Windows 7 (32 & 64-bit version with SP1 or higher)

I finally decided to move from XP to Vista and now Vista is DEAD?
See if You can find a 14.4 download for Vista, http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
???

Mainstream support for Vista ended in 2012, & as of January 1st Microsoft also change some of their driver certification policies. Getting a WHQL certification for Vista requires using an older test kit. Which is a pain in the butt to use compared to the new one. So many companies are deciding to no longer include Vista driver certification. Because of that, & the low volume of Vista machines globally, we only certify Windows 7 & newer OS's.
The driver should still work in older OS's, but are simply "not supported".
