... but different ISPs and so normaly different DNS-servers. Because both my ISP's still can't resolve lunatics.kwsn.net, I decided to check the set of nameservers which DNSbench finds usable here. The majority do find the correct address, but quite a few fail: DNS server Result 129.250.35.250 *** x.ns.gin.ntt.net can't find lunatics.kwsn.net: Server failed 129.250.35.251 *** y.ns.gin.ntt.net can't find lunatics.kwsn.net: Server failed 216.231.41.2 *** UnKnown can't find lunatics.kwsn.net: Server failed 216.254.95.2 *** dns.nyc1.speakeasy.net can't find lunatics.kwsn.net: Server failed 216.27.175.2 *** dns.atl1.speakeasy.net can't find lunatics.kwsn.net: Server failed 64.81.127.2 *** dns.dfw1.speakeasy.net can't find lunatics.kwsn.net: Server failed 64.81.159.2 *** dns.chi1.speakeasy.net can't find lunatics.kwsn.net: Server failed 64.81.45.2 *** dns.lax1.speakeasy.net can't find lunatics.kwsn.net: Server failed 64.81.79.2 *** dns.sfo1.speakeasy.net can't find lunatics.kwsn.net: Server failed 66.92.159.2 *** dns.wdc1.speakeasy.net can't find lunatics.kwsn.net: Server failed 66.92.224.2 *** phl.speakeasy.net can't find lunatics.kwsn.net: Server failed 66.92.64.2 *** bos.speakeasy.net can't find lunatics.kwsn.net: Server failed 74.118.212.1 *** UnKnown can't find lunatics.kwsn.net: Server failed After seeing that, I was surprised that 66.93.87.2 (dns.sea1.speakeasy.net) did work OK. Crazy quilt stuff. Joe |

I haven't had any issues the whole time. In my router I use my ISP as my primary DNS and then 8.8.8.8 (Goggle) as my secondary. Single adding goggle as the secondary I don't think I have been having any DNS issues. SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours ![]() |

I was able to reach Lunatics just now. Earlier in the week, I was able to get through once, but most of the time it failed. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

Finally after adding Google (8.8.8.8) as secondary DNS i can reach the site from home again. Strange though. Aloha, Uli |

I see the problem is not solved yet. So, I sent Toby a message about what I found. Hoping it will be a help. |

I could not reach it just now either. Even though I could when I last posted. And I am not playing around with hosts files or anything. Just hitting my usual bookmarked link. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

Not sure what's been going on - it's only lunatics.kwsn.net that I've seen this issue. Over the past several weeks I lost access to it from my work computer (VM physically located in Brisbane, Australia), but could still access from home (Sydney, Australia). Today, I just lost access from my home computer as well. I can only access by manually specifying the address in my hosts file. I'd prefer to avoid manual work-arounds if possible. Has there been any progress with finding out what's happening? Soli Deo Gloria |

Adding a line to hosts file solved the problem for me. sample /etc/hosts (I think there is a HOSTS file in windows too) localhost 127.0.0.1 linux1 127.0.0.1 lunatics.kwsn.net 63.247.72.178 To overcome Heisenbergs: "You can't always get what you want / but if you try sometimes you just might find / you get what you need." -- Rolling Stones |

Adding a line to hosts file solved the problem for me. Yes, but Wedge said he didn't want to do that. FWIW, I just tried it here at work. I don't believe I've ever taken this computer to the site before. It worked fine. An alternative to editing the hosts file, as pointed out earlier by HAL9000 and Ulrich Metzner, is to modify which nameservers are being used. There are programs which will do that semi-automatically for Windows, for instance those listed at http://www.softpedia.com/downloadTag/Change+DNS. Since I posted a couple of weeks ago, the public nameservers provided by Level3 and UltraDNS have lost *.kwsn.net, but Google and OpenDNS nameservers remain OK. Toby's hope that the situation would resolve itself over time is still possible, of course, but I'm not encouraged by the trend. Joe |

Well this looks a bit odd. > lunatics.kwsn.net Server: ni.kwsn.net Address: 63.247.72.178 *** ni.kwsn.net can't find lunatics.kwsn.net: Server failed SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours ![]() |

Just an off the wall suspicion to throw out there. Could Lunatics/KWSN/ISP be operating over a VPN service, which have recently been blacklisted by certain Internet infrastructure companies ? If (at a stretch) this is so, seeing what I'm seeing with respect to the US Comcast Vs Netflix debacle, I'd suggest switching to someone who'll provide the bandwidth you paid for with no blocking/shaping.
