Time to re-created this thread since #XXVI reached its limit I set for the dial-up users. Enjoy.... :)

SETI/BOINC MILESTONE THREAD GUIDELINES:
    01. Please do not post any embedded images. If you must include an image in your post, for illustrative purposes, create a link to it. No thumbnails either, please. Stats images are allowed in signatures only.
    02. While quoting a post with a very long broken URL in it, fix it if you know BBCode, otherwise delete it or place spaces in it to break it up so it will wrap properly.
    03. While making a post, with a long URL, use a small link name. An option, if you have no control over the url, is to use http://tinyurl.com/ to create a new "tiny" link.
    04. Please do not use obscene language and/or threaten other participants. Moderators may delete such messages.

HINTS FOR DIALUP USERS:

You can update your preferences in your account. Edit your "Community preferences":

    01. Set "Display this many messages per page" to a lower number. [ Suggested by user: Link ]
    02. Set "Show images as links". This will also create a link for images in signatures, but will not hide avatars.
    03. Set "Hide avatar images". All you will see is the username and stats.
    04. Set "Hide signatures". Some signatures have useful information, links to related sites and such and witty quotes. If you set this, there will be no signatures displayed. ( See #2 in this section)

I finally reached the 2m mark a few days ago.
I used to be a cruncher like you, then I took an arrow to the knee.

Is anyone still using dial-up?

Just realized that I've crossed the 10M mark, combined SETI production and Beta! (7M production and 3M Beta...)

I have just reached 25 million seti credits even though one of my three crunchers is currently out of action and will have to stay that way at least until the end of this week when I can get home to fix it. So, good news and bad news!

Greetings,

I would suspect that persons living in extreme rural areas not having access to cable Internet and/or cannot afford cable or satellite Internet would still be on dial-up. Then again, phone companies have that high-speed Internet (I forget what the acronym is for it). In any case I remember what it was like on dial-up and I remember it was agonizingly slow loading when these threads got extremely long. :)

Keep on BOINCing...! :)

I live in a small town out in the wilds of Kansas. We are to far out for any cable company to reach. Wrong side of the highway for AT&T to get us DSL. We do have a Wireless internet provider, 1.5 down, 768 up, $250 install, $70.00 month. We do have dialup, which a lot of people still have here.

If I wanted to move 90 miles to KC I could be on Google fiber. Sigh....

On the other hand, the forums can be set to only display a certain number of posts per page. I use the default 75, but you can go pretty low if you want. You can also speed things up for yourself by hiding signatures (which I do even with decent internet because the image source servers are sometimes slow) and even hiding all images.
