Feasting at the trough continues

"The parliamentary commissioner for standards, who conducted an investigation into the culture secretary's expenses, ruled she should repay £45,800 but the House of Commons Committee on Standards, which has the final say on issues on ethics and disciplinary matters, cut this to £5,800." WHY?

Could this be WHY.......

The 13-strong committee is mostly made up of MPs and its three independent members are not allowed to vote.

"MPs "marking their own homework always ends in scandal", he said."

Don't we know it!

Ah the joys of people power......

"Dear Sirius B

This morning, 09 April 2014, five days after the petition began; Maria Miller MP resigned from her ministerial post.

The public support for this petition has been overwhelming. Of course this is just the first step. Maria Miller still hasn't paid back the full £45,000 and the expenses system still needs reform.

In addition there are questions that need answering about the Committee on Standards. They disregarded the Parliamentary Commissioners recommendations after a 14 month investigation, letting Maria Miller off with literally a slap on the wrist.

I hope this petition has shown that the power of people power via social media is a game changer. This can rightly be seen as the first ministerial resignation via pressure from social media.

Thank you once again for your time to sign and promote this important subject matter. I hope going forward this petition will help contribute to achieving positive change."

Point of order - sorry, late arrival in this thread. The first Clegg-Farage debate was simulcast live on LBC (independent) Radio and BBC TV (the News Channel). On 26 March, as widely reported in advance.

An even better one worth signing....

Stop MP's policing their own expenses

Love the comments.....

"Fairness in these times of so called austerity .... having the people bail out the crooked banks ....when the coffers of England are seeing more revenue than ever .... we cannot even have our roads fixed ..or a healthy NHS .. but there is enough spare money to fight phoney wars .... and feed fat cat politicians ..... you work for us not yourselves ..... time for change and kick governments into touch ..."

The best of the bunch!

Ok - so Jesus cleansed the temple of the money changers (who are believed to be the forerunners of our modern bankers) - so why do City of London bankers still have a seat in Parliament - The Remembrancer - to use for special pleading against any draft legislation that might cause a little leak in their trough if it passes through their grubby little mitts? Is it not enough that in the "golden mile" companies now cast more votes than citizens?

The Remembrancer is an ancient post answerable to the City and has 6 lawyers, a budget of £5.3 million a year and the right to see every draft law before it’s passed!

Ohhh... I get it now... the House of Commons isn't a temple and prime minister's questions isn't the sermon on the mount. Duhuh! Wonder how much the event cost? I mean - he was entertaining the heads of some very wealthy churches indeed - I expect it wasn't cold baked beans they were being fed...

So... back onto following in Jesus's footsteps... David Cameron has presided over... an unprecedented boom in: foodbanks (more than five-fold increase since the general election) that's the bread and fish I suppose; a more than 30% increase in homelessness (pick up your bed and walk); an extra million people living in absolute poverty; 4000 senior nurses axed under their "protection of the NHS" (that's just the tip of that iceberg - I know that where there were once 4 nurses on duty for 30 patients dialysing there are now 4 for a hundred in a certain "flagship" hospital - assuming no one calls in sick of course - and the death rate during dialysis is rising - miracle cures needed here I think); a tragic increase in "abandoned" pets - who are being handed into shelters by loving, heartbroken owners who simply cannot afford to feed themselves, let alone their animals... but he has boosted the quantity of champagne slurping at the trough... so that's good water into wine innit!

Yes... that's a big society we can all be proud of David.

Cheers

Any other councils in the UK doing this?

Just received in the post today....

Good news and bad news from the city council budget

Brown bin garden waste collection service - £39.00 charge

The conservative council has introduced a charge for the collection of your garden waste. It is proposed to start charging residents (£39) for this service from 27th May. Residents who sign up for this service will receive a £3 discount.
Yes, you can opt out of having the brown bin collected, this is purely an "opt-in" service.

Each household that opts in and pays for the service will be sent a special identifying sticker.

What next? A special sticker that states this resident pays all bills on time, owes us not a penny so please remove the large rod stuck where the sun don't shine?

Edit:

It won't be long before all services to be paid for individually so leaving the annual council tax to pay for their pensions 100% rather that the current 25%.

Oh please don't tell me that the British conservatives are jumping on the 'Christians got it so bad, everyone hates us' bandwagon like they did in the United States.
